Joe DiMaggio -- Hunt auctions

I know this isn't strictly GU, but has anyone checked out Hunt Auctions current Joe D auction? What was with this guy?? Who saves shower shoes for 40 years? Who saves DSL slips for 20 years? I firmly believe Joe D. was a miser; the guy obviously never threw anything away!!

Joe DiMaggio was a jerk! He once told my mother at the 1995 Sun Times show to hurry up with taking pictures because she was holding up the line. He was getting $175.00 for a flat signature at the time. The guy in front of me had a photo signed by Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle. He needed Dimaggio to complete the photo being signed. When he got to the front of the line--Joe D. said--not signing-- when asked why because the $175.00 fee had been paid he replied---I don't sign anything Mantle signed ahead of me!

He charged his sister Marie rent to live downstairs in his house.

Or here is a good one which I will summarize from the article---
When the San Francisco earthquake hit--his sister ran outdoors not even stopping to grab anything. Slept at a neighbors friends house for several days. When he arrived at the house-he did not panic when he could not find his sister. Instead, police escorted him to a yacht harbor called Marina Green when emergency management teams had set up shop and where residents had gathered and news crews of course flocked to the Great Dimaggio. And for once he did not duck. There he was full framed in their cameras eye standing so humbly like all of the other dispossessed. And look! Joe Dimaggio was hanging onto a garbage bag. Uncomplaining-no, he didn't want help. He was fine. He had been at the ballgame. He'd find a place to stay. His house was not a worry, but he would like to get in touch with his sister. Immediately--news flash. Joe D. looking for his sister.
Of course his sister got the news and called in.
He stayed at the Presido Club after that for a few nights--honorary member--never paid dues. And he would sleep well there--with the garbage bag, which held six hundred thousand dollars, cash which got deposited in a bank the next day.
Enough said on Joe Dimaggio!

Joe D was a helluva ballplayer.

DiMaggio was also jealous of Mantle or anyone else with ability. He was a stuck up bastar* who had the personality of a doormat. Ted Williams wasnt much different with his requirement of being announced as the greatest hitter that ever lived.
