I am doing a 24x36 inch painting for the Negro League Baseball Museum (NLBM) of the 20 Negro League players who played in a MLB ASG including Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Brooks Robinson and Ernie Banks. The painting is going to be made into prints that are sold with proceeds benefitting both the NLBM and us.
With a print at 16x20 inches that is signed by the 7 still living members of this group including Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Brooks Robinson and Ernie Banks, what is a cost you would be willing to pay?

I'm not interested in those players but I'd say five hundred is fair.

Hi Absolon - I agree with the 500.00 price. When are you starting the painting?

FYI to all GUU members - Absolon is truly a talented artist and as a proud owner of 10 of his paintings, I encourage you to check out his work! :)

I have had a mixture of votes so far from everyone I have talked to. Has been 2 people for $500, 4 for $1,000, 1 for $1,500 and 1 for $3,000.

Jeff, you actually own 11 of my paintings ;)

Hahaha, just realized I typed Brooks instead of Frank. It is Frank Robinson.

Ok, I just realized I had messed up in the facts I posted.

It includes these players:
Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Larry Doby, Monte Irvin and Ernie Banks.
Signed by these players:

Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Monte Irvin, Minnie Minoso, George Altman and Don Newcombe

Nice work!
I would say retail at least $1200 but limit to no more than 100pcs.
It costs at least $500 give or take a few to just get the autos so I don't see
any room for markup at $500; not to mention the time and effort put into
creating the piece and getting all the autos. Unless you have all 7 guys
signing at once at the same location, there's a good amount of expense associated with shipping 16x20 prints all over the country.

Again the keyword here is retail. Wholesale at 40-50% off and let some
dealers make a couple hundred bucks.

Just my 2 cents however if the guys are signing for free I would say
$500 is fair.

Absolon,

Very cool piece!

I have a question though. Who is the player in the Orioles uniform? If that's Larry Doby he never played for the O's. He spent the majority of his career with the Indians and also played for the White Sox and Tigers.

While Doby never appeared in an official Major League contest with he Orioles, he was acquired by them in December of 1957 from the White Sox and after playing the Spring Training schedule with them in Scottsdale, AZ, was traded to Cleveland on 04/01/58.

Subsequently, there are quite a few photos of Doby that exist with him in an Orioles uniform and I can only suspect that the artist used one of those as his inspiration....
