Hopefully no one on here was the winner of the 1971 Braves road flannel on ebay that started and sold yesterday.

The jersey was listed as an Atlanta Braves 1971 road flannel of Pat Jarvis that had been handed down to the minor leagues. It is the same style as worn by the Atlanta Braves; however it has incorrect Spalding tags and most likely was manufactured for minor league use and never saw use in Atlanta. Atlanta flannels carried the standard blue rectangle Spalding tags that one sees regularly on Atlanta Braves road flannels.

The white Spalding tag is not from a MLB jersey.
The blue Spalding tag is correct for the period.

With all due respect, hiram, I have to disagree.

I have seen the collar strip tag design on at least one other Spalding 1971 Braves MLB flannel. Rhe white Spalding tag is something I've also viewed on later-issued Spalding gamers (1971 flannels and 1972 knits). Personally if I were offered this jersey at a price I liked I would buy it.

I can't seem to get file photos to translate onto this site, but I searched and found a 1971 Spalding flannel, albeit a Giants (Jim Ray Haet). It, too, had the white Spalding tag.

Dave, I value your opinion greatly but all of the 68-71 road flannels I've ever seen around this area had the standard Spalding tag. Of course nothing can ever be ruled out in vintage collectibles, but I for one passed on it.

By the way, I had no issue with the strip tag in the collar. It's the white Spalding tag which I had issues with.

I know nothing about this topic, so maybe should not jump in. But here are a couple of 1971 jerseys for consideration (admittedly not the Braves).

Both the same as the Hart Giants 1971 road in my files.

Thanks for the info guys. I too have seen the white Spalding label on other jerseys, but just have never seen it before on an Atlanta Braves flannel. I may have been totally wrong in my evaluation, but I'm a big enough of a man to admit it. Still I'd love to see more examples of Atlanta Braves flannels with this type of white Spalding label.

I verified my evaluation of the subject with a longtime Braves collector who's collection of Braves vintage flannels and knits puts any other collection I've ever seen to shame and his comment on whether he'd ever seen that white tag on an Atlanta gamer was "never".

If anyone has any other photos of that tagging on authenticated Atlanta road flannels I'd love to see them. One can never learn enough about this great hobby and about baseball history in general. That's why I collect.
