Any clue as to what the codes mean on this Wilson NFL football? There is a "G" on the left and an "X" on the right... Does this match up to other 1984 models? THANK YOU!

Yes. Date code "G" would be a year ending in 4 (and with that being a 1976-89 Rozelle ball, 1984 is about the only option), and "X" indicates October.

Can someone post how the date codes on the balls work?

I was using this for reference. Post #32 from Joel. Is that correct?

Well, I was told the ball was from a game in December of 1984... Is it possible that the ball was made earlier in the season and used later?

Can't speak to how the codes work on jerseys (very well might be Z=January, etc.), but for Wilson footballs, the codes work with

O=January
P=February
Q=March
...
X=October
Y=November
Z=December.

Year code is the same as indicated in the linked post (with A=XXX8 through K=XXX7).

As for the ball being used in December, that's logical; there's usually a lag of a month or two between manufacture, delivery and use. Earlier balls (70s-ish and prior) were used until they were thoroughly trashed, so it's not uncommon to see them used a couple years after manufacture. Modern balls are more one-and-done for games, then converted to practice balls/sold/whatever.

Hi...I know a Wilson football that would have been a 1974 would have had a double "G".....and the codes repeated or reverted back after every 10 years.....so, the G makes sense that it was a 1984. I think the second letter has to do with the month of manufacturing. Also, after the late'70's, Wilson dropped the trademark below the "N" in Wilson......so this is definitely post '70's...... Hope this helps.....
