I would like to know if anyone has been successful in removing signatures from a game used bat? If so, how did you do it? I want to remove a personalization of an old sharpie signature from the barrel of an old gamer.

"Goo Gone" works like magic. Very small amounts are needed and not much rubbing is required to remove the ink. It is orange in color and leaves a pretty strong orange type of smell that fades over time. I've seen the results on blond bats and it's pretty amazing how well this stuff works. Haven't tried it on black finished bats, so I'm not sure how Goo Gone affects that type of finish.

The best solution is Cramer Tape Remover liquid. You can get it on Amazon. It will remove Sharpie on all finishes, including Hickory and black bats, but won't cause color issues with the bat finish.

What about ink on a baseball?

I just picked up a 2000 Futures Game for Hambone to sign at Spring Training, but I need to remove Corey Patterson from it.

Couldn't pass it up for $15 since these balls are vitually impossible to find either blank or not full team signed for hundreds of $$$.

I've actually cleaned up dirty baseballs with toothpaste and a toothbrush and a few other steps and it worked great but, never tried removing ink.

I butchered one of my bats with a combination of nail polish remover, olive oil and even a light sand...Why I even touched the bat with sandpaper i'll never know. I think I was delirious.

You wouldn't know it was there if you didn't look at the area tho'...

btw - the picture itself is lighter, I didn't sand the whole bat :)

I'm curious - why did you want to remove the signature from the Williams bat?

It wasn't Glenn's signature. It was Terry Tiffle on there.

Leave it alone. The personalization adds value.

I don't quite agree on this one. I would never buy a item that is personalized with a name.

I agree with sportsnbikes on this ones.
Before i got into game used I was heavy on HOF single-signed baseballs.
Any baseball w/ a personalization always sold for less than one without.

I agree. The personalization probably adds more sentimental value than it does book value...unless it was personalized to a player or other personality. I would never buy something personlized to Bertha, Biff, etc :D
