I am very fortunate to have obtained Orlando Cepeda's Santurce Crabbers uniform from the 1974/75 season of the Puerto Rican League. The Cangrejeros franchise is among the most legendary of the league, and uniforms from the mid-70s PR League are extremely scarce. This came directly from a former American "import" player who took several uniforms home with him one year. Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson, Jim Palmer, Tom Lasorda, Ray Dandridge, Josh Gibson, Tony Perez and countless other stars played for the team over the years.

Here's the Cepeda uniform:

I picked up a total of ten jerseys and nine pants. Below are photos of the whole group of jerseys, as well as pants worn by Don Baylor and Tony Perez ("Tany" Perez is his Spanish nickname).

One final note, Robin Yount played for the Crabbers at the time these uniforms were used. I have been in contact with Crabbers Historian Tom VanHyning, and we cannot find the number he wore with the Crabbers (1974/75). If anyone can find proof of Yount wearing crabbers uniform number 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 38, 39, 40 or 41, whether it be a photo, game program, etc,. I will Paypal them a $200 reward. Young players like Yount were just given random number with the team, so it is quite possible he wore one of these tops.

Thanks!

Thanks! Unfortunately, the team owner donated the "low" uniform numbers to another local baseball team, so the #17 Tony Perez jersey, #25 Don Baylor jersey and several other star jerseys are gone forever. Thank God this former player was able to save these ones!

Caribbean items are always great to find. I managed to find Ed Vosberg's Santurce jersey from the '88-'89 season several years ago, and one of his jerseys from the Caguas team, year unknown...those, a Yusmeiro Petit jersey from Venezuela, and a couple of bats, and that's about the extent of my "Caribbean collection".

Here's a photo of Robin Yount wearing this style of uniform. I NEED TO FIGURE OUT HIS NUMBER! Once again, $200 will be PayPaled to anyone who proves he wore a uniform in the batch, or $50 to anyone who can prove the number he wore, regardless of which number it is (so I can put it to rest).

This book may have the answer pages 221-239 a copy available for 16 $ on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Santurce-Crabbers-Seasons-Puerto-Baseball/dp/0786406623 (http://www.amazon.com/Santurce-Crabbers-Seasons-Puerto-Baseball/dp/0786406623)

Here is a more detailed site that allows access to most of the book (but not the roster pages unfortunately)

There are a few copies on Ebay-- sometimes I've had success contacting the seller and asking (in this case) "Is there a photo of Yount in the book showing his uniform number?" and/or "is his uniform number listed in the roster section of the book?" Of course, I let him know that I will purchase the book from him if either piece of information is in it.

Good Luck

Thanks Mike, great minds think alike (hehehe)... l do have the book and as a matter of fact, the author and I are working together to document the uniforms. Eventually when these shirts and pants find new homes, they will come with full documentation.

Thanks again for the input! -- Anthony
