As far as the '75 Red Sox jersey goes, he wore a size 42 that year and the jersey is a 40... it's probably a jersey a fan ordered through McAuliffe back in 70's.

Older minor league jerseys are tough to determine who wore them, and especially in this case. You have a 1971 jersey that the seller indicates was worn by rice in 1974.....how can this be attributed to Rice, let alone in 1974? Any type of LOA from the team,Rice or an expert in some capacity?

The Phillies sent their jerseys down to the minors, and I've run into the same issue. I have a #44 road flannel that I was told was worn by Schmidt in the minors, and I have a photo of him wearing 44. How can I ever know for sure if this is the actual jersey? I doubt I ever will.

In summary, unless you have some type of additional proof, I'm not sure how this can be attributed to Rice, him ever wearing it in 1974 or for that matter, ever.

if the jersey was original, unaltered, and properly year tagged with "1974" then i believe it could be attributed to whoever wore #14 in 1974. however, given that the jersey is from 1971, i'm interested to know what caused the authenticator to believe it was worn specifically in 1974. it seems to be a huge leap.

if i have a #2 1994 mike gallego yankees jersey, how can i say that it was used in 1996 by derek jeter?

it seems the jim rice pawtucket jersey may have an interesting little story.

the first team to be called the "pawtucket red sox" first existed in 1970. they were a AA affiliate of the red sox. seeing as how this jersey is labeled as a "1971", it would seem to come from the AA pawtucket sox, which jim rice never played for.

in 1973, the AA pawtucket sox moved to bristol, CT and became the bristol red sox. the AAA affiliate of the red sox came to pawtucket, RI from kentucky and this AAA affiliate then became the new pawtucket red sox.

rice was drafted in june 1971 by the red sox. after being drafted, rice played 60 games in 1971 for single-A williamsport in the NY penn league. in 1972 he was sent to winter haven in the florida state league. in 1973, he was sent to AA bristol. later in 1973, he was transferred to AAA pawtucket. he spent 1974 with AAA pawtucket and was called up to the boston red sox in august 1974.

so light of all of this, it seems that in order to have used this 1971 labeled jersey in 1974, rice would've had to pick it up in bristol in 1973 and then take it with him to pawtucket and use it in 1973 and 1974. this seems unlikely. the only other possible scenario is that when the original AA pawtucket sox moved to bristol, they left their jerseys behind in pawtucket. then when the AAA sox arrived in pawtucket, they used the jerseys that the AA sox had left behind. is this likely?
