Hi All,

What size of jersey did McGriff wear? Would a game jersey differ from a BP jersey?

I am thinking this is a retail jersey. I would think Fred would wear at least a size 48. The jersey offered is a 46.....

I used to own a 1991 Padres gamer of the "crime dogs" and it was a size 44.

Wow so he did wear a small jersey?

Do you think jerseys sizes have changed over the years? For example, a size 48 nowadays would compare to a size 46 20 years ago?

I think the way the players wear their jerseys is a lot different. Now a days they wear them much baggier.

Fred's 1991 jersey is a size 44 with 2 inch extra length.

A 46 doesn't seem out of line for the Crime Dog. Jersey sizing now is far different than from 20-25 years ago. The size 38s and 40s of the 1980s are now the size 42s and 44s. McGriff, despite his size, never took huge (for the era) jerseys. A 44 in his Blue Jays, Padres, or early Braves years would be accurate. At the end, he might have made it up to 48, but I'm not aware that he ever took any 50-something sizes, even in the early 2000s. By comparison, a guy who's bigger and bulkier, Frank Thomas, started his career in a 46, ususally with 2 inches extra length. He didn't go to 50s until the mid-1990s.

Here is a link to a '89 McGriff game worn Blue Jays jersey, with provenance from the Blue Jays. Its a Size 44.
