Got the idea from recent thread (First MLB Bat).

The first game used bat I ever got directly from a player is also the first gu bat I ever got.

In 2009 after Josh Hamilton got called back up, Julio Borbon got sent back down and he came with OKC to face Round Rock. I was sitting directly next to the dugout and when he came up to the on deck circle, he came over to me and the guys I was with and said, "What's up guys, ya'll look bored. Having fun?" I responded saying, "Not bored at all. Having a great time." Julio said, "Glad to hear it!" So since he was so cool, I went along and asked if he had brought any extra bats with him. He told me he would check to get me something. Then as he goes up to back....'CRACK'!! He cracked his bat on the first pitch, and flew out to RF. He came in the dugout and walked straight to me and handed it to me. It was an LVS M9, covered in ball marks and tar. Crack is very slight, just hairline.

Got it signed after the game!

So overall a great experience with Julio Borbon!

Now let's hear about your first IP given bat.

I still wish I had the first bat given to me directly by a player. I was 12 years old and my first bat was a cracked George Brett bat given to me by pitcher Larry Gura during the 1981 season when the Royals were in Oakland. He was in the runway watching the game and I was sitting along the rail and asked him if I could get a cracked bat. I knew Brett had cracked one so when he was going towards the bats the batboy had set aside, I said "can I get the Brett bat". He came back with the Brett and it was a beauty. I had the bat for years but ended up selling it along with the rest of my bat collection when I got back into the hobby a few years ago. I had sellers remorse for awhile because it had more sentimental value then I thought it would but I ended up using the money to get my new collection started. I'm biased but to me it's the best Brett I've seen to date. It was a T85 LVS, heavy pine tar going up above the centerbrand and GB5 on the knob handle. Sweet bat for sure!!

My "first" is gone, also...1982 spring training, at Mets camp, courtesy of Ron Gardenhire.

The "first" of my current collection is an uncracked LS of Derrick May from 1993, before the last game of the season in San Diego. Overall, that was quite a productive memorabilia trip: the May bat, 3 GU Cubs caps (Billy Connors, Bob Scanlan and Dwight Smith) and a Tuffy Rhodes home run ball I chased down in the RF seats (also was Turk Wendell's 1st MLB victory).

During the Spring Training of 1978, Glenn Borgmann, catcher of the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox gave me this bat. Obviously I still have it.

I still have my first bat obtained when I was a kid in the early '80s. Jeff Stone was an average outfielder for the Phils but always very kind to the fans (autographs, talking etc). I saw that he broke the bat and asked him for it after the game ended. He also signed it for me, although he was walking when he signed it and it came out terrible. Stone would play 8 years in the "Bigs" with a .277 lifetime average.

I no longer have my second and third bats and they still hurt. I sold them on ebay around 2005. A Tony Gwynn gamer obtained in person at the Vet....don't even ask me how.... A Darryl Stawberry gamer also obtained in person at the Vet. Each was signed.
