OK, a guy bought a Johan Santana jersey on the cheap and he knows I collect Santana stuff, so he offered it to me. He claims that when he got it, he discovered it has the characteristics of a game issued spring training jersey. All of the Mets gamers I've seen have the "authentic collection" tag on the inside, but this one is on the outside. The wash tag on the inside has been cut off. Here's he original listing:

And here are pics the guy who bought it from the eBay auction sent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mets never had any pinstripe jerseys in spring. Just plain white and gray. Looks like an authentic retail jersey at most with a signature.

Santana wears a size 50 tapered with +2" sleeves. Looks like a retail jersey with the 6200 code cut off the bottom of the tag.

A clean cut like that was done specifically to eliminate the 6200 retail code. Plus, 48 is a retail size (50 is not). Run, do not walk away from this jersey.

Any cut tag would be a HUGE red flag!

While teams may at rare times use 6200 coded jerseys, they don't give 2 cents about that tag...so this deliberate act was done to hide the code.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I was a little skeptical, which is why I posted. The knowledge of people on this site is only surpassed by their generosity. I really do appreciate all the help.

50 bucks, not bad for a signed jersey though.

who wants a twice signed jersey ?? even if the autograph did not show up on the number, i would never have a player sign it again.

Not just scammers, but hobby-uneducated dealers and collectors who either have lousy research methods or have more money than brains and discernment of game-used items. Wishful thinkers too. The result's still the same, though...a misrepresented item.
