Yes, there are Worth retail bats out there. Check out the knob. Retail bats generally have a single digit number that indicates the bats length (see this link http://sports.mearsonlineauctions.com/LotDetail.aspx?lotid=34365&searchby=3&searchvalue=worth )

A Worth Professional Model Bat generally will contain the player's initials, the bat length, and the model number on the knob (see below)

Plus, gamers should be "hand-crafted."

The "Hand Crafted" notation on the barrel also appears on (at least some) Worth retail bats where only a single digit number is present on the knob, such as the one you describe. An example of this is found on MEARS Cert 308473 -- Cal Ripken Jr Worth store model bat.

A Worth bat with a single digit 3 on the knob would not be authenticated as a professional model Worth bat.

The first labeling period for Worth Professional Model bats OK'ed for MLB is accepted as 1983-1988. The distinguishing feature of that period is that the center label WORTH is written in outlined (not filled in) block letters. In 1988 and 1989 the center label WORTH letters were filled in, as seen on the Ebay "Staub Bat." Given that labeling criteria, the earliest manufacture date for this bat would have been in the (approximate) transition year of 1988.

Also, note the knob markings (a single digit 4) of the Ebay bat. Again, Worth bats with a single digit number on the knob are viewed as store model bats, and would not be authenticated as professional model bats.

Refer to May 17, 1996 pages 160 & 161 of the SCD. "In 25 years, Worth bats made inroads with major leaguers". Pretty good article and gives some information as to manufacturing criteria.

Hope this helps.
