No Photoshop needed. Go to a photo store and buy a roll of white seemless (paper backdrop), or use a white bed sheet. You don't have to use white, you can make it any style or color that you want. Just make sure to light the item...and diffuse the light. Good luck!

Try this photoshop tutorial:

I use a white background and also, I use photoshop techniques.
Colored jerseys are easier than white jerseys.

Clipping paths are the key to making a clean look when taking out the background.

Go to PATHS. Make a new path, then use the pen tool and draw around the outline of the item and make sure you connect it so it is a complete shape.

Once finished, go to the paths drop down menu: select Make selection. I use a feather radius of 1, but it's your choice. After making your selection, the items path you drew will "light up" with motion showing the path is selected. Then go to clipping path, then (I personally use a flatness of 1) hit OK. Your item will still be "lite up", so hit ctrl+N for a new window, use the top tool, the Move tool, and drag the selected item into the new document. If you want a white or transparent background, make your choice and then you have a clean background for your item!

Done.
