Interesting email I received from Robert Lifson. I'll copy the relevant information below:

REA is offering a $1,000 reward to the first person who provides us with a photomatch of Joe DiMaggio wearing this 1933-1935 San Francisco Seals Joe DiMaggio jersey graded A9 by MEARS:

There are a lot of DiMaggio photos out there. Hopefully this will be an easy $1,000 for someone.

If anyone can find this for him, contact Robert at: info@robertedwardauctions.com

could this be another questionable item from the Halper collection?

i'm interested in seeing what comes out of this....

Joe is bottom right. I just sent this in. Did I win? Here is a link. I can't attach an image from my iPhone.

Don't believe a match will be found, as isn't this the jersey MEARS deemed to be not authentic?

Sorry, just read all of Joel's posting. Had the wrong jersey in mind.

I would agree. To find a conclusive match from some grainy 1930's black and white photos will be near impossible

All of these photos came from the book " Joe DiMaggio The Hero's Life ". I think the picture of him looking at his collection of memorabilia matches the one in the auction, even has DiMaggios auto in the neckline:

If you need better pics, let me know.

good photo and the type of thing i'm sure lifson is looking for, i.e. a shot of a jd seals shirt with the lettering just below the top button (most seals photos from the era show the seals lettering well below the top button, perhaps below the second button, which is the case with the other jd photos you supplied). not only does the lettering in the display case photo appear to match up well in terms of position to the top button, but the pinstripes that run through the s and e also appear to match up very well to the auction shirt...

almost impossible to compare autographs imo, but from what i can see they don't seem to match up. whatever the case, for a true photo match i think you would need to find a game photo of jd sporting the shirt because, for all we know, the shirt in the display case could be a well done fake that even fooled jd, no?

anyway, i think lifson is looking for a quality shot of jd sporting a shrrt with the lettering positioned high, just below the top button, as in the following photo of another seals player:
