Dennis Rodman, part of two NBA Champion Detroit Pistons teams, had his #10 jersey retired April 1 at halftime of the Pistons-Bulls game.

Of course, Rodman went on to win three more rings during the Bulls' second 3-peat.

I was pretty excited when I read the article:

Dennis was one of the greatest defensive players in NBA history. Five NBA Championships speak for itself.

I was very happy when i heard this.As i have always been a huge rodman fan.And i always thought he never got the respect he deserved. And was very much underrated. And i realize it was because of his "spotlight" antics. But on the floor i thought he was a great basketball player. And certainly deserves to get his jersey retired in detroit and in chicago. And for sure deserves to be in the hall of fame. The guy should have gone as the all time rebounder but his antics got in the way.I just love the story i heard him say about his final nba game. And he said that the night he got the record. He would get the rebound and then right after it.That would be it for him.He said he would take off his shoes, get his daughter and walk off the court with her.And i thought that was just beautiful. And he was crying as he told it.

I'd support his HoF candidacy, as well. And, when you consider him being a normal sized guy (for the NBA), and not a big man, you COULD argue on his behalf as the top rebounder in NBA history, at least when taking player size into consideration. On an overall basis, he'd certainly be in the team picture.

Great rebounder. Great defender.
Still odd to see a guy that was probably never even the 3rd best player on his team, make the HOF. I doubt Worm was ever even considered a Top 10 player at any time in his career. How many other hoops HOFers are there that didn't even avg. 10 points a game? Is he the only one? Specialist indeed. A hoops version of the punter?

I read an article that mentioned some of his antics making him NOT HOF worthy. I think it helped him in the long run, because everyone knows who Rodman is. How many people know who Bobby Jones is? It is the Hall of Fame, after all.

Still, you have to think Artis Gilmore is quietly shaking his head.
