I believe that I have a Chris Chelios game used/signed Blackhawks jersey from 1993. Would anyone be able to check out pictures and give me your thoughts? Please let me know what you think and please let me know if you need any additional pictures.

Couple of red flags upon quick glance:

1) It's totally clean. Chelios was a bruising Dman, the jersey should be trashed with stick marks, puck marks, piling, repairs, board burns and filth. Fight strap should have salt and rusting in it.

2) Size 48 is really really small. I'd expect to see a 56 or bigger.

3) The Centre Ice tag is normally on store bought authentic jerseys rather than game worns.

If I had to make a definitive assessment, I'd say a mid 90's store bought authentic jersey signed by Chris Chelios.

I'm just a baseball guy so eductate me on where the salt comes from.

It looks like most of his jerseys sold on Classic auctions have been size 52.

Basically from sweating. If the jersey is worn long enough the players sweat will kind of "corrode" the metal snaps on the fight strap and usually you can see the white salt marks on the snaps or some rusting.

Sportsfan602,

Sorry to say you do not have a game-worn jersey.

MeiGray has authenticated 12 game-worn Chicago Blackhawks Chelios jerseys, one from 1992-93 and one from 1993-94, and none has been smaller than a Size 52.

Additionally, if the jersey was a gamer from 1992-93, it would have a 100th anniversary of the Stanley Cup patch on it ... and if it was a gamer it would most likely have the season and a set number marked in Sharpie behind the NHL shield ...

Size 48 was a common retail size for an authentic retail jersey. Even as far back as 1993-94, very few NHL players wore jerseys as small as Size 48. And Chelios was not a small guy.

Hope this helps,
Barry Meisel, MeiGray

helps a ton guys, thanks for the information! I guess an authentic signed Chelios jersey still isn't half bad. Certainly would have loved it to be a gamer... if anyone else has any information to add, please do!
