Just checking the news on Yahoo and this came up. Lame. Kind of makes me sad.

You are not alone in those feelings, Wade. I read it too and also felt sadness. Everyone who was a fan of the Big Red machine, the Reds or even just baseball probably feels the same.

I saw that too. I had the chance to meet him in Fort Worth. He had some great stories. I had also ordered a Fort Worth Cats home jersey with his #1 on it that I had him sign.

Very sad day indeed.

Sparky is a class act....treated everyone I saw great. When Sparky left the tigers, that was harder for me to take than any player leaving. We were lucky in Detroit to have had him here for 17 seasons. He started a great charity CATCH that still is going strong.

Really sad to read... especially that he is suffering from dementia as I have heard that is harder on most families than even Alzheimer's...

My thoughts and prayers go our to the man they call Sparky and his family...

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post news like this, but as many of you know Sparky Anderson has been placed in hospice care. I know there are many Tigers collectors that post on here(myself included) as well as Reds collectors. Sparky is as great a person as he was during his time as a manager. I was thinking we could use this thread to post any Sparky GU or autographed items that you may have in our collections and maybe share some kind words. I was fortunate enough to get his autograph a couple times including this yearbook I got signed a little over a year ago. My prayers go out to Sparky and his family.

Nothing game used, but Sparky was always a willing signer. Here is one of my favorites:

Tough couple of years for Tiger's fans. George Kell, Mark Fydrich, Ernie Harwell, and now Sparky.

What a character he was! Torey Lovullo is probably going to be a pallbearer. Of course I will always remember he and Griffey Jr. jawing back and forth at one another all those years ago.

RIP Sparky....

Sparky was so good for baseball. He will be missed. In the past couple years, the tigers have lost George Kell, Mary Fidrych, Ernie Harwell & now Sparky. All four of these men were class people. They treated everyone they met w/ respect, and appreciated very much the opportunity baseball had given them in life.
Here's a couple lineup cards...Sparky as a player and a manager.

Amazing manager he will be missed. I believe LaRussa is the only other manager to match his feat of winning a Series in both leagues.

I once saw an interview of Sparky Anderson as he sat in his office at Tiger Stadium. Behind him was a wall of autographed baseballs. I thought it looked great and that's what started my autograph baseball collection way back when-Which led to my game used collection-which leads me to an appropraite thank you today to Sparky.

PM sent. Thanks! Since Morgan and Bench are two of my favorites of that era, I'm very interested in Sparky's views on that team, which was one of the best ever assembled.

He goes on quite a bit about that team and there is an entire chapter entitled "Peter Edward Rose"!

I might have to save my pennies to pick up a Tigers jersey with a Sparky patch this year:

"Adding Anderson's No. 11 to the list is one of several ways in which the Tigers plan to spend the 2011 season honoring him. The Tigers will wear a blue patch on the right sleeve of their uniforms, bearing "Sparky" and No. 11, starting with Spring Training games next month. The team will raise a flag to remember him, much like they did with George Kell and Ernie Harwell, before the home opener at Comerica Park on April 8."
