Watching the game tonight I was unimpressed with the Phillies coaching. Also there was a lack of clutch hits.

The Phils had plenty of chances to take the lead. Manual elected to try for big innings instead of trying to play small ball and score the go ahead run.

Thoughts?

I'd say the Giants just beat them. The Giants didn't hit well with RISP either but their pen just shut them down after that shaky first inning. Great pitching always beats great hitting.

Good pitching beat good hitting. The giants pitching is so deep Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, etc.. They will be tuff to beat!

best part about it was on mlb tv the only matchup they talked about last night was rangers vs phillies.

No sour grapes here.

Neither SF or Philly is my team. Philly should have won last night. They had multiple chances to score runs but Manual left the game in the hands of his hitters to just swing away.

Look at the way Texas scores run with running and advancing runners on base etc (small ball). That is what I am trying to say Philly should have done with all the runners they had on base.....Take a run anyway you can......

I think that was the theme of the playoffs this year, so far. I felt that alot of teams beat themselves by either errors, poor performance, or managing. Then again, I guess that's why they play 5/7 game series and don't base it on one game.

Kind of like how when I turned on ESPN Friday night after the Rangers clinched and there were two headlines, "Yankees eliminated" and "What's next for the Yankees?"

the yankees can buy whoever they want, but if you look at their best years in the 90's it was all done with homegrown guys. With the way free agency is structured they are signing veterans but since there is no more steroids i wouldnt count on these guys being all that great in their mid 30's
