Hey guys i have pondered this question for a while now and ive decided on my top five most eye appealing bats. I baised my list on two factors: 1 being consistency, meaning the player must be known for these characteristics and not a once in a while abnormality. As well as 2: the bat must catch your eye as a bat that was carefully prepared by the player. please not that price or value is NOT important. Ok heres my list:

5. Ken Griffey jr (criss-cross) need i say more
4. Vladimir Guerrero (tar up to wazoo)
3. Alfonso Soriano (long tape job and light to thick tar centerbrand)
2. Gary Sheffield/Sammy Sosa (l happen to love the rediculous amount of knob tape)
1. Jorge Posada 2006-2010 (these bats have a criss-cross tapejob and heavy and i mean heavy tar)

I wonder what bats you guys consider "eye appealing". Any and all opinions welcome

I agree completely with your list, you hit it perfectly but you have to add a:

#6 Sammy Sosa (Ranks right up there with Sheff making a perfect ball tape job on the knob)

4. Jim Thome

Derek Jeter has a Mota Pine Tar stick routiene that mixes with his batting gloves that leaves a pretty recognizable pattern.
Justin Morneau has a small amount of tape on his bats that are always the same.
Paul O'Neill also had a spaced out criss cross tape job on his blonde LS. Barry Bonds had a spiral tape job that wason all his bats toward the end of his playing days. Or is barry still coming back? lol

5. Anything other than a:
4. Pujols game used bat.
3. Pujols game used bat.
2. Pujols game used bat.
1. Pujols game used bat.

and no, I'm not a Cardinals fan. But, Pujols, characteristics and all, is THE bat to own.

Personal favorites:

1. Paul O'Neill --- beautiful blonde Louisville Sluggers, great, consistent tape job, usually cleat marks, long and heavy bat, plus the simplicity of no number on knob.
2. Doug Mientkiewicz -- heavy pine tar, either a bigger knob or a taped knob.

Pujols bats are incredibly boring for being such great bats to own.
Gwynn, Brett, Biggio, Boggs, Vlad

I have to agree on Biggio bats! The tape, tar, and use on a GOOD Biggio can not be beat. Plus, he ordered so few bats in his career and he rarely let his bats out of his sight. They are very cool pieces!

I agree the Pujols bats are boring.

Another 2 players to conider for eye appeal are Miguel Cairo & Enrique Wilson.
Cairo would cover his bat in so much mota stick even if it did crack the mota stick held it together.
Enrique Wilson would do a perfect thin tape spiral up the handle or heavy pine tar.

Posada, Bonds, Paul O'Neill, Griff, Tony Perez.

My opinion may be biased but I always found Jim Rice's blonde, flame burned, spiral taped, and heavy tarred bats appealing.

I think Biggio's tape job is kind of blah..Nothing special at all..I like the guys that spiral tape their bats like Bonds, O'Neill, and Griff..Just my 2 cents.

Those are nice bats don't get me wrong. But for the subject of most eye appealing bats, Pujols bats don't really stand out from anybody else. I'm no Pujols expert but he doesn't seem to have any real player characteristics other than light pine tar? I also believe he frequently switches bats and never really hammers any w/ use. Doesn't take away from being great pieces to own, just not as eye popping as a Brett or Gwynn hanging on the wall. Plus ash bats with nice grain will always look better than maple.
