Wow that's some move!!

According to multiple reports, the Dodgers have agreed to send Manny Ramirez (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5132/;_ylt=AkgiLAOukS3aXl07BIyuNA4Ym5N4)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5132/news;_ylt=Ahg7dmtjvG3gKILN0FyWgegYm5N4) to the White Sox in exchange for … well, for the right to not pay him $4.3 million. It's not such a bad exchange for a fourth-place team that's 6.5 games back in the wild card standings.
The fantasy spin here is easy: Everyone wins, except for the stiffs who've served as designated hitters for Chicago. The White Sox have upgraded a lineup spot that's been an absolute sinkhole for them all season.
Manny will presumably be the full-time DH in one of baseball's most homer-friendly environments. (Though not when his calf aches, or when he's feeling claustrophobic, or when he's sleepy, or when it's a day game following a night game). This is clearly a nice move for him. At this point in the season, this is really a max-bid event in A.L.-only leagues. If you don't do it, someone else will.
Scott Podsednik (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6489/;_ylt=AiYjJIbN0OTxxClaNARbrCkYm5N4)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6489/news;_ylt=As1mOTEUtkeAtZxxQ3QhBtwYm5N4) gets to keep the left-field gig in Los Angeles, a huge relief for his owners. His useful fantasy campaign continues uninterrupted.
Here's hoping Manny can at least sell some tickets in Chicago, even if he can't lift the Sox past the Twins by himself. It's kinda ridiculous that, as of this writing, there are still lower-level seats available to the Sept. 14-16 series with Minnesota. Stay engaged, south side. Help arrives this week.

This is a nonstory the guy is done as a difference maker. He and Ozzie Guillen will have some interesting exchanges no doubt esp. when he has his famous concentration and effort lapses. Now that training camps over HBO should bring the Hard Knocks cameras in there.

Still won't make up for them passing on Thome.

White Sox look desperate and it still won't be enough to catch the Twins.

Prediction: Manny wins a World Championship every 3 years starting in 2004 with a team named "Sox."

Only on Planet Manny do they make the playoffs. They are like 10 games back of WC 5 of division and the Twins are loaded and experienced with Morneau returning.

Agree with you 100%, Lastings. While Thome has been a thorn in my side as far as getting his signature from him, in terms of rock-solid clubhouse leaders and good character, he's gotta be in the Top 5 in all of MLB. I think the Sox screwed up royally letting him go. Manny will hit some, but he's not 1/100th the class act in the clubhouse that Thome is. In the end, Thome will be in the playoffs, and Man-Ram will be trying to peddle "game-worn" White Sox jerseys to game used hobbyists.
