Minor League Jersey Number Help

Does anyone know where I can find info on what jersey numbers players wore in the minor leagues? Specifically I am looking for David Ortiz.

Does anyone know if the yearly Baseball Register put out by The Sporting News lists uniform numbers of minor leagues players?

I know The Baseball Cube lists minor league rosters but they do not list uniform #'s.

Like many I'm sure, I have had a heck of a time tracking down this kind of info so if anyone knows of a good resource please share it.

Hey, Dewey....

If you're looking to verify a particular player's number, I've had some success with just emailing the team and asking them to look it up in their records.

Of course, that doesn't help when the auction for the jersey you're trying to decide whether or not to buy ends in three hours, I understand. :rolleyes:

If the team has a website, and the site has a discussion board, you might also post a message saying, "Does anybody have a program from 1979, and can you tell me what number it says Joe Blow was wearing that year?" It has been my experience that, of the folks who generally hang around on minor league team message boards, at least one will have a program for 1979. :rolleyes:

Looking for some help on some Potomac Cannons jersey numbers (2002-2004) , specifically who wore the following numbers:

I am curious what number Joey Votto wore in 2004, Edwin Encarnacion in 2003, Skip Schumaker in 2002 and Dan Haren in 2002.

Skip Schumaker in 2002: #3
Dan Haren in 2002: #36

This list may not be entirely complete, but these are the players that wore those numbers in 02-04

36 - Dan Haren, Steve Kelly, Eddy Valdez

sometimes thebaseballcube.com will have jersey numbers but the longer ago the less likely (2003 not likely). Sometimes you just can't find anything, if it is a prominent player I'd suggest searching images. If google images, getty, etc don't help try four seam images, they have a good amount of nice minor league photos but not sure if they go back to 2003.

Godwulf, aside from some helpful folks on here and the Baseball Cube I think one of the best resources is the players actual minor league baseball card if they have one. Sometimes you can find pics of them on-line but you should check out Beckett or Sportlots to see if they have any available. Good luck, Dewey

Good call Dewey, most minor league teams put out team sets, plus other minor league cards from just minors, tristar, etc. are out there.

I know that the pitching coach, Mike Parrott, always wore #20, and #40 was probably Scott Service, but no clue about the others.

The only numbers I could track down are:


40 - Scott Service
5 - Robby Hammock
10 - Alex Cintron

It's likely some of those were worn by coaches. I'll look into it a bit further & will post any other numbers I find.

Those recently looking for minor league number info may want to look at this thread. godwulf gives a nice tip. Another option is looking at the specialized minor league photo website and getting lucky there.
