I recently bought a Louisville Slugger C271 bat on ebay of Ivan Rodriguez and it is signed by him and he put game use under his signature. The bat has a few ball marks on it and is from his time with the rangers. I was wondering if anyone had anymore info on this bat or might know much about whether this bat is actually used or not? Thanks!

Post pics and people can give you an opinion. Keep in mind that unless you saw that bat get used or it has an MLB hologram there is no way to be 100 percent sure that the bat was in fact used by Ivan. You can try to photomatch it but even that is not ironclad. Players use so many bats every year so the first thing you need is the time period it was used during, then you can start going through video and photos of games to try to photomatch it.

I would feel confident in that bat. the auto and inscription are his. Its from around 1999-2001, its before they moved logo on the back side. He orders a million bats, C271 is a ordered model of pudge during that time. Photo matching it is going to be nearly impossible due to the time period.... Look for stitch marks in the barrel, is it cracked?

Id be satisfied with it.

It is not cracked and the signature is PSA/DNA certified. I was just worried because i think i have read that Louisville Slugger bats that say genuine above the name are store model bats?

No No No, If it says genuine its ok, but it has to have a model number. If it just said GENUINE, with nothing else. Then its a store model bat. Also, PSA/DNA is pretty reliable, a lot of sellers will sell items supposedly game used and authenticated by Taube when really it goes to the autograph, people dont know any better. I know thats Pudges handwriting though because I met him and had him sign a bat in person "game used". That doesnt automatically mean it is, but if its got stitch marks, tar, etc, with the ordered model, the inscription doesn't hurt. It looks like a good bat too me.

Alright, thanks. I was just worried because the bat wasnt psa graded for game use just the signature.

Even that isn't 100% man, my advice. Look at pictures of the guy using, become familiar with their models and characteristics. PSA/DNA is a good start, and JT knows his stuff, but do your own research. Hope that helps.
