What year is this label from? 2000 or 1993? It exhibits a '96-99 style label. If 2000, it's the wrong style according to Rudy's Russell primer. If 2000,what does the 93 stand for? Or simply don't post threads at 4 O'clock in the morning. Is it understood that a jersey can exhibit the previous years style label?

Robert,

It looks like it matches the 96-99 tag in Rudy's primer.

Not sure why it says "93" on the strip tag. (perhaps it's not year??)

David thanks, I'm thinking that also. The reason I asked is that there is a Mlicki Tigers jersey on ebay ,minus the shoulder patch I believe, and this label was not exact(to the primer) but possible it was used. But the patch I'm guessing was removed.

The tigers usually put an inventory number on their strip tags .....

Swoboda:

The '93' on the strip tag is, indeed, an inventory number.

The Russell tag is designed for 1995-99, but this design showing up on 2000 jerseys is not unheard of. I've seen legit 1997 jerseys with 1992 Russell tags, so a one-year carryover is reasonable.

The strip on that jersey is Year-Player#-Set#-Inventory#, so it is a 2000 and the 93 is an inventory code. As for the label it could be a carry over that just has the patch removed or maybe a spring training jersey???

Sorry, one more thing, look to see if it has the MLB logo patch on the back of the neck, I believe that was added in 2000.

thanks for all the info. Are the Tigers known to take patches off to recycle?

That jersey is probably from spring training in 2000. The Tigers did not have the MLB patch or Commerica patch on the home white jerseys in spring training that year. A getty images search will confirm.

Yes, the Tigers used to take off the patches and recycle all the time. Sometime in the mid-2000's they realized people wanted to buy this stuff so now everthing is mlb authenticated and sold(makes it easy to know what is real, but it jacked up the cost). I collect Tigers gamers with patches, from 94-2010 I think I am only missing a 06 WS and the "EH" patch from this year.
