Not sure why anyone would enjoy paying this type of fee just to have the "privilege" of spending your money with someone.

Heck, if you actually live in the state where the auction is, expect to add ANOTHER 6 to 10 percent on top of the fee. This could possibly add 25 to 30 percent on top of what you actually bid.

I would have to basically steal something at auction in order to make money on it. Sometimes I do, but most of the time I don't.

I still go with eBay for most of my purchases.

Can people chime on on info I can use to update this chart?
Thanks

Recently received the SCP / Sotheby's auction catalog. The buyer's penalty in a very painful 20 percent, and if you live in California you can add another 7.75 percent.

Just think, for the privilege of spending your money with these people, you could get an additional hit of 277.50 added to every 1000.00 you spend.

Or a mere 200.00 hit, if you are fortunate enough not to live in Cali.

Starting with the next auction at Hunts, the buyer's penalty is be raised to 15 percent.

Remember, there is NO buyer's penalty on eBay, and a lot of the items have the same COAs as the auction houses.
