I'm not an expert, but from what I've learned, pretty much every legit Griffey has his criss-cross tape on the handle.

All the Jr. bats I have, do have criss cross tape. What's on the knob?

Griffey was #30 and #3 during his time with the reds I believe. Also, I don't believe he ever wrote his number on his bats.

Like others said, I haven't seen many, and haven't seen ANY modern bats with numbers written on the bat.

That is his model he used, but without the criss cross tape job I would be hesitant.

the owner said he took the tape off, but looks like the residue is still there

I agree, no number should be on the bat.

I had contacted the seller about the bat and the tape job and was given same anser that he had removed the tape job?????? .....(Record Scratches)...RED Flags PoPed up! So, I thought Ill take the $100 gamble!..Contacted him And said ill take it..said he was at work. I reminded him of my number and name and was never contacted again,,RED Flag! If its good its great, This was my first time seeing pictures of it...Worth the risk? I tried to talk him out of other bats. But was Denied...Good Luck on this one

Also, # 24 is a retired uniform number with the Reds during Junior's time there---HOF'er Tony Perez... so you might want to compare the number on the knob with some Perez gamers... Possibly Perez was an instructor, coach, etc during the period, although Perez' H & B records do not document this model as one he ever ordered.

thanks everyone! I will see if I can get a photo of the knob. Maybe 24 means BP or something since retired? If I don't get it and someone is interested, I can pass the seller's info on....

Too many red flags. I dont think this is a "diamond in the rough" type thing were looking at here, i think this is just a bat that someone is doing a poor job in trying to pass off.
