I am 99% sure this auction is a fake:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1980s-Jim-Zorn-Game-Used-Worn-Seattle-Seahawks-Jersey_W0QQitemZ360241394716QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_ DefaultDomain_0?hash=item53e00f741c

I would appreciate it if someone could confirm. I am pretty sure the numbers should be bigger, and that there should be a year on the tag, and that Champion didn't make game jerseys for the Seahawks in the 70's/80's.

I haven't been able to find a clear-cut shot of the smaller front numbers, but Champion did make some early Seaahawks jereys with no year tags. The year tagging didn't begin until Sand-Knit took over the Seahawks supplying of uniforms, which was in or around 1983. More input is needed, as I can't conclusively call this one.

Here is a '78 with the year tags:

Getting right down to the nitty gritty details, the white gap between the green and blue shoulder sleeve stripes seems a little tight compared to anything I've seen Zorn wear in the early 80s. Also, the numbers look a little smaller, front & back. Maybe, just the picture perspective though?

I'm not really the jersey expert, however, I would not spend big bucks on an early Seahawks jersey unless it has the Powers, Bill Hatch, or, Athletic Supply tags on them.

Zorn did actually wear something that looks more like this Champion jersey in '82. The numbers seem just about the same size as the jersey in that auction. So........

Another good shot of Zorn in 1982, and what could be that Champion jersey?

Also, one last thing. Zorn liked to alter his jerseys by adding material to loosen the throwing arm sleeve a bit(see pic.). I'm quite positive he did this in '82.

Actually, correcting myself, it doesn't look like he did this in '82.

Did you ask the seller about the jersey before you posted, and gave the seller 24 hours to reply?

If not this post should be deleted!

Is this Howards jersey? If it is, I dont see what light needs to be shed!!

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here? I believe this discussion helps validate Howard's jersey, as well as, helps shed some light on Zorn jersey's, for that time period, in general. This post shouldn't be deleted because that's the whole point of this forum; 'Auction Item Discussion'.

The original poster had valid points to be skeptical, thus, showing some pictures to help ID it helps us all. What am I missing, er what's the big deal?

The seller has had over 96 hrs to reply and hasn't. Anyone can fake a letter. Or switch an authenticated jersey with a fake one.

One other thing about the auction is that the letter mentions "shirts". Since I am not really into the game used scene, is that a normal word for "jersey"?

Yes, it is a commonly used term. Especially in regards to the older jerseys, as many players refered to their old jerseys as "shirts".

Mickey Mantle even inscribed one of his gamers as his "My (enter year here) shirt". I just can't remember the year. If I can find it in an older auction catalog, I'll post it here.

I just now noticed the inside of the 0 is a rectangle. The one on ebay has tapered edges.

Good eye Postermen. There also seems to be a break(of sorts) right at the mid point of the collar? Almost like a V Neck collar overlap. That, definitely doesn't look right.

That break in the collar, I was referring to, was in the auction jersey. Doesn't seem to be in the 1982 Zorn jersey pics.

Then again, the V neck collar thing, a common thing? Again, I'm not the jersey expert. :o

Some would be surprised. There has been at least one instance where such a "very highly respected forum member" knowingly tried to sell a fake jersey. I know from asking about an item being offered for sale by that member, then watching him try to hawk it on ebay, then an auction house. Who knows where it is now. Hope it's in his closet.

Personally, I am not surprised this item was being questioned. It is the right thing to do. Somewhat interesting a certain member never chimed in.
