I just got in an interesting Manny Delcarmen Red Sox hat and it got me thinking about personal touches players put in their hats. Anybody have interesting hats - not just a player's number but some sort of personal message?

I don't know if it is appropriate to post a picture of the Delcarmen here because there are 2 curses - but it's an amazing hat!

I have Jeremy Sowers' Team USA game used cap. Inside the cap, he has written:

"Do it for Al Bundy"

I don't normally collect Team USA or Cleveland Indians gear, but this one was a classic.

Yes, I did buy it from Hunt. It was sold in a lot with many other Sowers items -- I believe there were 2 jerseys and 2 pants but can't remember if there were any other items in the lot. The only thing left is the cap.

Dwight Smith, former Cubs OF, gave me a cap at the end of the 1993 season. In addition to his number, the inscription "Shitty Smitty" was also present.

Also, Ray King sent me a Cardinals Sunday alternate GU cap a few years ago. Among other scribblings under the brim were 82 tally marks, in groups of five. I looked up his stats...82 was the number of appearances he made that season.

Here is the Delcarmen - if it's not appropriate, please delete this post.

The 9-9-07 is the date Delcarmen's son was born. As far as I can research, the "code" dates back to the '07 season as bullpen coach Gary Tuck would often wear a shirt that said "Stick To The Code"

Not gu hats, but after some drinks Mickey Mantle would sometimes include unrepeatable salutations with his autograph. Think words that start with the letter F.

that would be cool, especially after reading about his son many surgeries to correct a rare health problem. his wife is a trooper too.

Posada adds that touch to many, but not all, his pants. He has also added it to his jersey on occasion.

I believe David Wright puts his grandparents initials inside his hats but I have not seen one first-hand.

I owned a few Red Sox 2007 WS hats and a couple players wrote messages - it seems the Sox guys do it more than most other teams.

It is not a major league cap, but I have Jon Lester's cap from 2007 in Pawtucket when he was making it back up to Boston on rehab it has his number under the brim and he wrote a passage "I do things through Christ who strengthens me" its a pretty strong message from a cancer survivor I had him sign it in spring training in 08 and gave me the 3rd degree untill I told him where I got it. I also got a cap from Jermaine Van Burren at the end of the season in Pawtucket that was loaded with pinetar and still is. I just can't figure out what a pitcher would need pinetar on the bill of his cap for.??????? Hmmmm no idea

Here are the 2 game used hats I own, they are already posted in the Detroit Tigers GU thread, but not all of you look at that so I figured you might like to see them. Also, I know Tigerdale already posted a Granderson hat, but this is the one from my collection. Placido Polanco road Tigers hat(with his kids names) and Curtis Granderson home Tigers hat(with "Dont think, have fun").

Sometime in the mid 90's, circa 94-95 seasons, Frank Thomas began to inscribe "DBTH" to his hat(s) and other items. By 1995, Frank had been in the big for 4 seasons and 50% of those saw him winning the AL MVP Award. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE was his way to stay focused and within himself. I have seen these in other Thomas collectors collections but have yet to get my hands on one.

So, in other words, you have a cap from "The Dave Clark Five"???

(ok I admit that was terrible, but I am sure I was not the only one to think it!!! :))

Joba Chamberlain from 2010 with a tribute to his childhood friend Nate - who is the reason Joba wears #62 (it adds up to 8 which was Nate's number)

Finally took a pic of the Joe Nelson Marlins hat I picked up from a forum member awhile back with a personal message written inside. No idea what the word/writing above toe on the right hand side means...
