Hello. I am new to Game Used collecting. I own a few bats, and one jersey, and am finding that this aspect of the hobby is much more interesting.

For bats, I am very comfortable with PSA/DNA and Zane Burns, but I am not familiar with jersey authentication. Is Lou Lampson okay?

There is a Griffey jersey on eBay and it seems like a good price. Here are some pics ....

Also, does anyone know how much MEARS charges to authenticate? They seem to be widely accepted. I am not able to find any info on their website regarding submissions.

Thanks in advance.

Whenever i see a item with a LOA from Lou Lampson i just pass right over it, because most of the time it's not real. I would do a past search on this forum about Lou and you'll find more info about him. And Mears has their prices on their website.

That's all that really needs to be said. I agree 100%. If the name Lou Lampson is in anyway connected to a piece of game used, I don't give it a seconds thought and pass on the item without hesitation.

Thanks - I did find the MEARS pricing.

Not sure if I even need to do a Lampson search now ... :)

Lou Lampson has some knowledge about some things. He doesn't know everything about every sport from every season. The trouble begins, when someone refers to themselves as an "expert".
Do your own research, and take each item on a case by case basis.

Most importantly, remember that letters of authenticity sell for three and a half cents at Kinko's.

I'd like to add my opinion quick that Zane is a nice guy... but a lot of his bats are unused or only slightly used. They're also oftentimes older or from AS games and things like that. Not to say he's bad to do business with, but there are better places to find legit game-used stuff. John Taube at PSA/DNA is a top-notch professional across the board. Sometimes you pay a little more from him direct, but you're getting the authentic article almost always w/o question.

John Taube is excellent. Very professional and great to talk with. I purchased two bats from Zane years ago - Luzinski and Maddox, and both were "pounded" and authenticated by JT.

This already seems like a great place to be a member of, thanks to all who responded.

As far as Lou is Concerned, RUN don`t walk. Please look at the Threads mentioned by fellow Members about him. It`s all about doing your Homework, on any Given Bat, Jersey, Baseball, Auto etc.

I think Rudy mentioned it once or twice, even the Worse Authenticators, Auction Houses etc, will have a Great Item now & Then, they have to.

Look at the Lou Threads, worth it for the Humor!!!
