Brian,

This 2009 Utley WS bat does not seem to have anything stamped on the knob. Is this a souvenir bat or were not all 2009 WS game bats consistently stamped?

Thanks

Full dip black Maple bats were prohibited for the 2009 season by MLB.

Brian,

If the full dipped maples were prohibited for the 2009 season why was this produced for the 2009 WS?

Thanks

That bat is against the rules, so it can't exist. We would never make a bat against the rules

That is all I will say about that.:D

Hmm. So we not only have to worry about "fake game use" but "fake game bats" too.

Let me try to replay it with the intended intonations.:D

"That bat is against the rules, so it can't exist. We would NEVER make a bat against the rules  (finger and toes crossed)"

Brian?

I will just say we didn't make any full dip black Maple bats for Teixeira either;)

By the way, they are changing the rules for this coming year. Once again we are having to stop ST production and wait on MLB to hash out the details with the Player's Union on what to be done with Maple. Full dip black bats will once again be allowed with a window in the black to check for SOG. Much like that Utley bat that doesn't exist!

There are seven other proposals on the table. I know a few of them such as a ban on Maple will not be considered but it is out there. Hopefully they will get us the new rules before Christmas.

I found this photo of Robinson Cano using a double dipped maple with the SOG window during the 2009 WS. Thanks for this good information. At least when we come across these bats with the window we know what/why they are.

Oh yeah, those don't exist either...

Here is my thought on it. If you produce something that might get you in trouble; not putting the production date on the knob to make it look like an older bat and then putting the "2009 WS" on the bat kind of defeats the purpose.

This photo sums it all up. We call it that at my job too. I say the Mods lock this thread and let it get buried beneath subsequent threads before an MLB spy stumbles across it.:D

From what I understand MLB did visit the Phillies over the black bats. A lot of the Marucci bats used by them were full dip black. Bill Steele called me about it and was pissed. I agreed with him until I found out something similar happened in my facility while I was in Montana. I know Rawlings called MLB and lodged a complaint.

Hi Brian,

How many of those full black M9 Teixeira bats with no dates on the knob did you produce for the World Series. Yes, I mean the ones that don't exist. :) I just got one of the ones Teixeira used and it's got perfect gold world series ball marks. There is a perfect ball mark where you can read the majority of the WS logo.

Thanks in advance,
Scott
