Hopefully nobody on this site paid more than $168.00 for this obvious fake of a 1988 Cleveland Indians Julio Franco home jersey.

The most blatant problem is the red piping around the neck and down the front. Indians jerseys didn't have this characteristic on their jerseys until 1994.

Also, the stripes at the ends of the sleeves also resemble a Twins jersey style, not the Indians from 1988. Indians jerseys had stripes that where much thinner.

A check of the tag in the neck appears to show that it has been hand sewn where the year tag has been attached. Also, the tag is white and Indians jerseys from this era used red Rawlings tags.

The lettering on the nameplate is also inconsistent in cut and placement for Tribe jerseys of the era.

How many other problems can you spot with this jersey?

You hit the nail on the head- that piping is just a glaring issue dwarfing the other obvious problems with the jersey. I have been looking for a real Franco Indians gamer for some time and this one is not even close.

..the tag is white and Indians jerseys from this era used red Rawlings tags.

rawlings first introduced the white tag in 1988. any red tags seen on '88 jerseys would've been leftovers from '87 (or aberrations from the factory. perhaps rawlings just using up old red tag stock from '87). ideally, on an '88 rawlings shirt you should see a white tag. 1988 and 1989 were the same style of tag. 1990 and 1991 saw a new style albeit still white. then when russell took over in 1992, rawlings reverted back to red tags for the few teams that still used rawlings.
