Well, our team is done for the year, I'm on the brink of burning my gear, and I am just out right depressed at the lack of football stuff on here.

So, lets start a thread that honors the past and (unfortunate) present of our Chicago Bears. I know there is not too many of us fans in here (maybe just 2 - 34swtns and myself), but lets show what we have.

We can use this as a support group and reminisce on the good ole days!!

Lets see what you have! :D

The Bears have had several former Gators on their roster over the years, from Carl Brumbaugh back in the 30's, Chuck Hunsinger in the 50's, Rick Casares in the 60's, Neal Anderson and Wilber Marshall in the 80's, Trace Armstrong and Shane Matthews in the 90's, and Alex Brown today. (We won't mention Rex Grossman)

I have a Shane Matthews 1993 rookie jersey that might be game issued or game worn. It's hard to tell because Shane didn't play a lick in '93. I also have a 1994 Trace Armstrong with the 75 year patch. It appears to be game issued also.

I can't post the pics from my work computer but you can see them here:http://gatorcollector.com/football_jerseys.php

Just glad to see a thread on a team/player that doesn't look to be sponsored by the Eastern Seaboard Programming Network. Hope you get a ton of good Bears posts.

Now this is a thread I could get excited about.

Awesome vintage ball, cohiba! I've got a sweet reissue helmet signed by the '63 championship team I'll post later.

Here's a ball that's a little more recent. Signed by Neal Anderson, Gale Sayers and Sweetness.

The Fridge generally wore a 50-52 but a veteran Bears collector once told me about owning a size 48 that Perry wore. Not beyond the realm of possibility, considering Walter wore a 42. The old Wilsons really stretched!

Here are some old-school Bears jerseys from my durene collection that I hope you enjoy viewing:

#35-Jim Harrison - RB from the University of Missouri who played with the Bears from 1971-1974. This is a Wilson jersey.

#65-Randy Jackson - OT from the University of Florida who played with the Bears from 1967-1974 and was a college teammate of Heisman Trophy winner and famous coach Steve Spurrier. This is a Wilson jersey with the nameplate removed.

#53-Jim Purnell - LB from the University Wisconsin who played with the Bears from 1964-1968. This is a King O'Shea jersey that was originally long-sleeves but was cut and hemmed. This is from the pre-nameplate era (NFL teams did not add nameplates until 1970).

#64-Larry Horton - DL from the University of Iowa whose only season with Chicago was 1972. The lettering is sewn directly on the back of the jersey.

2007 Brian Urlacher Game Worn Cleats - Photomatched 09/14/08 vs. Carolina

I have searched EVERY game from 2007 & 2008 for pictures and video of Brian in this style of cleats. I found 1 game. Having a slight obsession with his gear I know what style cleats he wore from his rookie year to the present. In 2007 & 2008 he always wore Blade Pro D II's. These are Nike Assassin's. Seeing as though I only found 1 game with him in these cleats, plus they are not his traditional style, this leads me to believe these were made for him as a trial pair. A 1/1 so to speak. Only 1 pair made, and only worn in 1 game. I think that if there was more than one pair he would have worn them in at least 1 more of the 31 remaining games in the '07 and '08 seasons. I also like the fact that the 'NEXT FRAME' logo is upside down on the right tongue.

I don't think I have ever been serious before when I said I'd burn something. As a Bears fan thought, I can say without a doubt that i have NEVER hated a player the way I do him and I WOULD burn his jersey. It is not his play as much as his sideline attitude in relation to the play. He has NO emotion. If it truely is the O line's fault, then give them an ear full on the sideline. I HATE Cutler. ;)

Thank you those are nice compliments ! I started exactly 3 1/2 years ago with nothing ! Hate to see what another couple years will bring ! LOL This bad economy and the Bears decline have given me an abundance of buying opportunities.(especially last year) It's the only good thing about the Bears being so lousy! I think people will be unloading all kinds of Bears stuff over the next year or so. But, they do have an large and extremely loyal following and Chicago is one of the top markets ! Plus many Bears fans are Cub fans(like me) so we are used to it ! Anyways the Bears will be fine ! Jay "dont call me INT" Cutler will be fine. They are going to build around him. He's got all the tools, I just am kind of worried about his head ! Hopefully he will stop being such a dick as he gets older.

The Bears do not sell Gamers at the pro shop. You can get practice gear and some game worn items at the Fan Convention 1 Minute Drill, but that is about it.

Common players are recycled. The Bears are stingy with their inventory and unless the jersey was bought by the player as an extra for himself, or it is so beat to death it is unusable, they generally do not give them out. In the case of being beat up to the point that it cannot be recycled any longer they probably just throw it in the garbage.

JO has gotten a couple of 2009 jerseys in so far. Briggs, Cutler Uni, Pace, McKie, Williams, Wolfe, and Tommie Harris from the Detroit game and Seattle game. Their inventory from the Bears is usually sent by the EM at the end of the season. But at their prices they are having a hard enough time moving jerseys from 2007.

Good Ole Sexy Rexy.......yeah, he's not doing much down in Houston. In all honesty I don't think he could throw 22 INT's in 13 games if he tried.

Remember, we did make it to the Super Bowl, and Rex was our Quaterback....lol

This is one of the nicer examples of a truly hammered jersey I've ever owned. It's got tons of wear, beat marks, paint spots, and some big repairs.
This one also contains a couple of firsts for me: it's the first time I've owned a lineman's jersey with spandex "pockets" in the sleeves for tucking shoulder pads into. And it's the only Bears gamer I've ever seen hit the market with the Gene Upshaw patch still attached.

Roberto Garza away jersey, game worn in the season opener against Indianapolis, Sept. 7, 2008.

Mine is Urlacher's '04 Orange Alt with the blue on white numbers. Assuming all plays out, I should have that by the end of the winter.

Next on my priority list is his '09 turf shoes from the Buffalo game, along with Greg Olsen's orange cleats that he wore in 3 - 4 of his record setting games.

Bruce

I personally have never seen one of his jerseys. My guess is, if he was only on for 1 season AND he was a punter, he only had 2 jerseys - 1 home & 1 away. I would have to think he kept them for himself and will probably never hit the market. The only way I think they would get on the market is if he passed and one of his family members sold it off somewhere and it eventually ended up in an auction house. However, I believe that scenario to be highly unlikely. In most cases those types of jerseys are passed between family and close friends for generations.

Good luck in your quest.

Good! At first glance it looked like it was on the left butt-cheek! LMAO!

Use A&D ointment twice a day - once in the morning after your shower and once again before bed - or as needed during the day. I have 100's of hours of ink on me so I am well aware of the 'sting' and burning, and swelling, and peeling, etc.

I had, at one time, a $50K+ 'Ryche collection.......gold and platinum awards, acetates, test pressings, Jap white label promos, the rarest stuff imaginable....things the band didn't even know existed. I met them dozens of times, wrote a collector's page for their fan club magazine and interviewed them for other magazines. Got to sit in on drums for "Eyes of a Stranger" during soundcheck in N.C. in '97. I loved 'em but they lost it for me when Chris DeGarmo left in '99. I auctioned off my collection at just the right time and moved on to game-used stuff shortly after.

I think keeping Lovie is ok. Not great, just OK! Turner, needed to go! I think the only guy on the Offensive staff of note who kept his job was the main WR coach. And rightfully so. The Receivers along with the Line Backers were the only two squads that overachieved this season. I think the young wide-outs will continue to develop. But I doubt they will be overly dominant without picking up a productive veteran via Free Agency.

The Biggest Crime was the offensive line. They had some decent talent and depth to work with, and failed miserably. I think the O-Line was the main reason for the Bears flop in 2009. If you noticed in the last two games(both victories) how well the unit finally played.(Especially against The Minn. Favres)

The Bears have some big holes, but I think these changes are a huge part of fixing the team.

What does anybody think about Mike Martz getting Turner's old job ? How about Marinelli becoming Defensive Coordinator ? Not sure about Martz, but Rob is the type of coach to at least get the unit to show a little more inspiration. Unlike the way they looked in that Bengals loss. Easily the worst Loss I have ever seen in my 25 years as a Bears fan.

What's the worst loss you have ever seen the Bears endure ? Was it that Bengals loss? Or another one this year ? Or from any year. Before the Bengals, mine was that 28-0 loss to the 49ers in 1989 NFC title game. I don't mean by margin of victory. But a loss where they were just going through the motions. And had basically given up.

tjm5711
01-05-2010, 05:39 PM
The 1989 playoff loss was actually 28-3. They still talk about this game, whenever someone talks about "Bear Weather". There was a -26 degree wind-chill and everyone said the "West-Coast Offense"and a California team was doomed. Well Montana threw for 288 yards and three TDS. It was easily the worst loss i ever endured as Bears fan, until this Years Bengals loss.

"Despite reports that assistant head coach Rod Marinelli would become the defensive coordinator, Smith suggested that position would be filled from the outside. Smith highlighted Marinelli’s importance as the assistant head coach (“Rod has been a rock for me,” Smith said), and he noted that Marinelli has his hands full already. “That’s a full-time job,” Smith said.
Smith said he continues to believe in his Cover-Two based scheme, even though the defense finished 17th this past season. Smith, though, isn’t so set on offense."

Yo TJ -

Turn on your PM or shoot me an e-mail. I have some info for you.

Matt(XXX) Correctly pointed out to me that Urlacher wasn't wearing 48 at the time. So in correction, this is the correct cut, but one size too small. it was a steal at $150 though, and I won't like it any less. But thanks Matt, appreciate the info. Your knowledge of this area is obviously extensive, and trusted by me.

No problem. Glad I could share it. I have spent alot of time and effort studying his gear since 2000. He is the sole reason I got into game used. Maybe a slight obsession but I enjoy it. If there is one thing that I do know its Urlacher - and a great thank you to those I talk with and get invaluable information from.

Sweet ! I was looking at that one on JO's site. $2500 isn't bad for it on JO's scale for a guy with Cutler's potential. Except for the picks he had one of the better seasons for a QB in Bears history. Nice pick-up ! I'm definitely jealous ! LOL

tjm5711- Thanks for the kind words. I agree with you and while the price was steeper than I would have liked to have paid, I like Cutler's upside as well. Plus, aside from Jim McMahon, I can't think of a better Bears QB to collect. Well, I guess there's Luckman, but that's not too realistic for me...

Luckman isn't realistic for many of us(me included). I've referenced the jersey I added here in another thread that went for $40K in an auction. And i absolutely agree with you on the steep price. But, you know it's real from JO. The price was the only thing that kept me from snatching that up before Christmas. Anyways, nice pickup, and if you have any Bears stuff you needed to move to make room for that beauty drop me a line at tjmm1172@yahoo.com.

Oh yeah, and as far as Cutler's upside ? Well Everyone focuses on the negatives. Sure he threw WAY too many picks. But he had some very good games. And all his other numbers were more than solid. He's a great investment considering the Bears locked him up in a contract until 2014.

Wow! That Luckman looks INCREDIBLE!!!

BTW, the Cutler jersey arrived from JO Sports early Thursday morning and I couldn't be happier. Great wear and it displays beautifully! This is the 3rd Bears jersey I have acquired through JO (the others are 2007 jerseys of Tommie Harris and Cedric Benson, which was actually purchased through one of GUU auctions). I also have two 2006 Bears gamers from Game Exclusives (Briggs and Muhammad). Yes, the prices are high (well, the Benson was pretty cheap), but the piece of mind I get when purchasing something that's rock solid authentic is well worth it. Thanks JO Sports!

Thanks Reed, she is one of the best! (next to my mother). I would not be the person I am without her. She is amazing and has always been supportive of my addiction, although most of the time it drives her nuts.

Here's a couple more pics of the Briggs BCA cleats. No real need to photo match these, originally from NFL Auctions. But, let's match them to the only game Lance wore them in against the Lions this year.

As far as Neal Anderson jerseys go, I have a nice one from 1990, Mears authenticated. it's a rare Bears White Road jersey.(Very hard to find them from the 80's/early 90's.) It might be available if the offering price is right.

You're not insinuating that people pay too much for items from NFL Auctions, are you?! BLASPHEMY!

"An item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it!!"
(Not to those of us with common sense. By that reasoning, if I can get some schmuck to pay me 10K for a beat-up 1987 Camry then the rest of us are supposed to believe that the car was actually worth that much..........uh, no).

Thanks. I must admit I was bidding on those Briggs cleats when they were on NFL Auctions. Not to win them because I was only in it for about $400, but I kept at it to drive that price up on the guy that did. I figured I knew what his max bid was and at the last minute dropped a bomb that drove the price up. If I wasn't getting them for $400, then someone was going to pay dearly for them, which it looked like they did.

Nice pic up Kid. $450 is a good price for those.

Oh yeah, as far as your precious Urlacher cleats ! LOL they could easily be practice worn !

The pics that you provided were from a practice session before the 2001 season. You can look at the date on Getty.

"Caption: 27 Apr 2001: Linebacker Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears stretches during drills at Bears mini-camp at Halas Hall in Lake Forest, Illinois. DIGITAL IMAGE Mandatory Credit: Jonathan Daniel/ALLSPORT"

I matched them to a game in 2000. Sure, they could be practice worn, but it wasn't until after they were used in games during the 2000 season.

Evidence supports this by the tape residue and dirt outlines left on the cleats after they were taped up for the Tampa game in 2000.

The gloves and wristbands for the Bears have been few and far between. NFL Auctions is your best bet. They have had some of their BCA Bears stuff up in the recent weeks.

If you are going to see anything from Harrison, it will be from there.

The best and worst of the 2010 draft (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/The-best-and-worst-of-the-2010-draft?urn=nfl,236463)

Worst Overall Drafts (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/chi/) :

Chicago Bears (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/chi/): Okay, let's get this straight. The Bears trade pretty much everything, up to and including George Halas' first leather helmet, for quarterback Jay Cutler (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7760/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7760/news). They have needs all over their roster, despite a very active free agency plunge. And in their draft, which didn't start until the 75th overall pick, they spend one of their five picks on ... Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour, who refused to throw at the combine because he wasn't familiar with the receivers. Ouch, guys.

Here we go again. This is not what I like to hear going into what is said to be the most important and demanding seasons in Chicago Bears history. With so many jobs dependent on this seasons outcome, I figured we would use a little more sense with our picks.

Did we really need a 4th QB? Hell No! And this stat about LeFevour refusing to compete in the Combine because he didn't know the receivers - WTF! Can't wait to see this clowns work ethic around Bourbonnais.

Not having a pick until round 3 (75th) doesn't help the cause, but we had more important positions to fill rather than QB.

I think there is too much relying on the free agent acqusitions. Releasing Brown and Ogunleye (2 of the few guys that actually showed up on Sundays) puts alot of demand on the younger guys who have yet to establish starter status, and a very heavy weight on the shoulders of the 30 y/o Peppers to stay healthy and have a breakout, Pro Bowl year. Our depth in defensive positions is now limited and I fear that injury and diminishing talent up front is becoming more of a reality to costing us our postseason for the 4th year in a row. Our secondary is ranked among the worst in the league, and I must say, Major Wright and Josh Moore are not the answers to this problem.

Offense? Well, Taylor is solid and I am glad we took him. I have yet to see the difference in Martz's scheme as opposed to Turner's so I will leave that alone for now. Forte has some heat for the #1 spot (even though Smith swears there is no #1 role and Forte & Taylor will split the duties), so we will see which of the boys (Forte or Taylor) will show up this year. We all know whoever is putting up the numbers will get more carries. Cutler is good, but has yet to get control of the offense, and with Martz now at the helm, I don't foresee that coming this season either. Our offensive line? Well, age, lack of talent, and position depth weigh heavily on that as well.

This will be an interesting year, no doubt.

.....(It's just missing one item.......;))

Yeah, I know, THE TV!

The most timing consuming part of that whole project was getting the MDF board BLACK. It must have took 3 or 4 coats of black stain/primer, and 3 coats of black lacquer. It was a nightmare! It was too cold to do it outside so I had to do it inside. The house reeked for weeks.

It was done in a 3 part system. 2 lighted cabinets for the jerseys and shoes, and then the middle part for a generic TV stand with shelves for the dvd receiver and stuff.

I still have yet to run the trim above the top to hide the wires from the lights and give it that "finished" look, as well as add an additional shelf between the 2 display cabinets. I have to wait on that until the TV gets installed so I can have some exact measurements. I am also undecided if that wood paneling is going to stay. It is old and beat up and really doesn't fit the theme. I just used it since it was there.

I am in the process of finishing the other side of the basement so once that gets done we will decide from there what to do.

I appreciate the compliments! As all of you know, a collection is a work in progress and everything is subject to change. I don't think I will ever be done.....

Authentics will be sold at the Soldier Field Pro Shop the day of the game. Season ticket holders have the option to buy them earlier. Although being a season ticket holder myself, I have yet to hear anything about a release date.

As far as the gamers go, I do not know of anywhere yet that will get the FOR SURE. There is talk that the team may be letting the players keep them. I would suspect that if they were put to market, JO would be the ones to get them.

Great, thanks for the info about the throwbacks.
When you see them let us know if the retail authentics look good.
If you get your hands on any and you can buy them I'd be interested in purchasing player or two if that's possible.
Cant see myself getting to Soldier Field as I am in California.

Nice score, Matt!

Thank you. Yeah, that thing has more holes than the American Legal System. It is definitely the 2nd, if not the 1st, most beat jersey I have come across.

Here is my latest project (posted in the jersey display case thread too). My reasoning behind this little project was because I have seen so many people pay top dollar for these casework cases, etc., only to have their jerseys looked crammed in there, creased, folded, and just not look very good to the eye.

Second, is seeing people cram, crease, and even pin jerseys in poster frames, or oversized picture frames, and stuff of that nature. This is all fine and dandy for a retail jersey, but gamers......

Looking around for quite awhile, all I have really come across (that looked like something I was interested in buying) was like 30"x34", or very close to that, and well into the hundreds of dollars. NO THANK YOU!

So, here is what I came up with. A 32"x40" frame x 3.75" deep. Made of 1x boards cut to size, assembled and painted. The door was made of frame stock (which I painted to match). A piece of 1/8" plexiglass, and the backing is a White Archival Matboard.

Here are a few pics of different jerseys to give you can see the different possibilities (I just used the same hooks and hanger, but you get the idea).

If anyone is interested in one contact me directly.

Matt,
Great looking display case. I don't like the idea of cramming jerseys into small frames. I really like the way that looks. Unfortunately right now, all my jerseys are sitting in a bin until I can get a place to put my collection. I hope to either have mine in a frame like yours, or in the open in a entertainment center like the one you built. For future reference would you send the building plans for something like that?

Also, sweet Olsen and Briggs jerseys. With so much baseball stuff floating around here, it's good to see some quality football jerseys. Even though its the Bears! :p

Thanks fellas.

After looking around at some of the photomatching websites I was easily able to determine that the Kellen Davis gamer was worn in games as far back as November of 2008, but more significantly, this same jersey was worn for both of Davis' other two career touchdowns including his first against Pittsburgh as well as one against Detroit.

This under arm repair is visible in pics from the Pittsburgh game.

And this shoulder hit mark is visible in just about every early season home game in 2009.
Here it is again in the Detroit game.

05-28-2010, 05:44 PM
Thanks JB, you're right, it is frustrating when you can't find easy matches for your stuff. I've found that even with the game footage it can be tough. Some players just don't get any close-up face time during games so you end up pausing far away shots trying to photograph details that you can barely see when the action is in real time, much less slowed down or paused.

Matt, c'mon dude, we're waiting. Post 'em up!

While we're waiting for Matt's new stuff, I thought I would add mine. 1st is Marcus Harrison's wrist bands from the BCA game vs. the Lions to go with the jersey I previously picked up from JO. 2nd is my new Idonije courtesy of the JO Sale. The Idonije was attributed to the Cardinals game, but after closer inspection there were repairs to the right sleeve. After digging on Getty I found a photo of the tear on the sleeve before it was repaired from the Lions BCA game.

TriplexXxSports

.......That Hilley is just destroyed!

Yeah dude, it ranks right up there with the Briggs and Harris jerseys. Its hard to tell by the pics I posted but 3/4's of the left sleeve was torn off (from the armpit in the front to about the back shoulder blade area). Dozens of small little thread repairs/patches. The hit marks range from silver, to red, to teal which would make me think it was used in the Seattle opener, KC, and the Dallas game.

One thing that is safe to assume with most of the Bears players is that they reuse their jerseys for multiple games. However, going back to your earlier statement, it is hard to find pics or even video footage as some of these guys just never get the media attention.

Unfortunately, I have only found 3-4 pics of Hunter from that Dallas game, and the only one that showed anything is the one that I posted. As for the previous games that season, the same thing applies - there just isn't that many photos available to compare to.

It doesn't matter to me though. Its got the team papers, it stinks to high heaven, and it looks damn good next to all the others......:D

Get off it HATER! When you start reading about me in the Scouting Report you are going to owe me a big 'ole wet kiss on my ass.

Unfortunately Scott and I are not in the same league anymore. I would have loved to run a blitz right over the top of him so the only person he would be helping off the field is his quarterback - with a busted leg!

On a serious note, I have to thank Scott for all of this. He invited me to come play for his program up north and knowing I couldn't make the journey he hooked me up with the info I needed here to get on a squad here.

Rick, I'm sorry you are the one that is too old to relive your glory days. I know you put that leather helmet on and run around the back yard like it was just yesterday, but that is no reason to hate on us!

Awesome jerseys fellas! It gives me wood to see this thread at the top of the page. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough Bears stuff out there to keep us on the front page for very long. Too bad we're not Raiders or Rams collectors......talk about "a dime a dozen" and "dirt cheap".
