What would you pay for a ball hit by Derek Jeter in the 2009 WS?

Funny you ask that I am debating that myself a friend of mine caught one Derek Jeters last foul ball I think in game 2 of the World Series.

Trying to come up with a reasonable number for him lol

There's a company out there selling MLB authenticated WS ball. Just trying to figure if I want to spend that kind of money on a ball.:D

It shouldnt be that much, there should be a ton of those on the market :D

I know if the ball was sold on mlb auctions it would go for a lot of money. I couldnt see myself paying more than say 1000-1200 for an unsigned ball.

Chris the asking price is $2295, and $750 for a plain game used without, pitcher batter match up.

whew...for that amt of money, you could buy several top-notch bats from great players. Not sure a ball would compare with that, but I guess yankees fans have to spend more since they have more competition from other buyers.

Do you guys think a item like this will hold it's value?

Just a ball hit, but not for a base hit of any kind?....meaning, a foul ball?

I would equate this to buying a new car. Once you pay for it and drive it out of the showroom, you just lost 40% of the value.

These are actual balls hit for base hit. There's not only Jeter, but Tex, Damon, Posada, etc.

Seems like a bad investment to me. I can see $50-$100 for a keepsake but anything over that is just riduculas.

Hey Scott,

Looks like I was right. There is a WS game used baseball on mlb autions and it is up to 2k with some time left. It looks like that Jeter ball was a steal!

Did you pick up anything? I never got an email from your contact.

I am curious if the buyers think they are getting Matsui's 6th RBI ball with the Cano ball on mlb auctions. I watched the game tape a few times and it is verified that it is NOT the matsui ball. After Matsui drove in the runs, the camera shows the congrats in the dugout and you can't see whether or not Happ gets a new ball. After a few replays of the clip, during the celebration in the dugout, you can see a ball roll into the dug out. That ball was taken out of play and Happ was issued a new ball for Posada, which he then struck out without a new ball having to go in play. The same ball was then used for Cano. I originally thought there was a good chance it could be the ball, but based on game tape it was not.

I bought a Jeter hit ball, which was also his only RBI of the series. Thought that was awesome to get an RBI hit of Jeter's from the WS. Now I just need to try to get Getty # 92601534 . There are a few perfect photos on getty of the hit. A few different angles, but this one is great!

I thought it was also interesting to watch the game tape on this one. A ball is throw in the dirt to Jeter and the ball was taken out of play. That ball was hologramed as such. A new ball was thrown into play and then Jeter gets the hit. It was clear on the tape Blanton gets the ball back and then looks at it and throws it back to the umpire. That is my ball!

Chris,
All I have to say is wow!!! As for my ball, I didn't pick one up as of yet. There are some no name baseball that don't have the Pitcher batter match ups that are cheaper. I am going to wait and get one of those instead. As for my contact I emailed as soon as read your post!! He said he could not send out a new list as MLB has told them to hold on sales of the balls. I am guessing its do to the high price that the MLB auction is doing. But he said he would send a list to you!!

Scott,
looks like you got a deal on your ball now!!!!!!

Aloha
Scott
