looks kind of like a posada tape job with more tar than one usually sees on an arod bat. Pretty cool bat!

nice looking bat.

If I can give my two cents. It looks like a bat that was made for ARod but has player characteristics of Jesús Montero. The bat has a tape job similar to all bats used by Montero.

What were you told was the person who used the bat?

Legth of 34 of the bat, as shown on the bat label are, is consistent with what would be ordered for Arod. Never seen this bat before.

Anyone know what the 38 31 on the knob means?

Perhaps the 31 refers to the weight (31 oz.) and I'm not sure that the other number is 38. Kind of looks like it could be JB or 3B. Just throwing that out there.

not sure what happened here:

1) ctg game used bat with a 2005 period label
2) ARod never used tape on any brand of bat in 2005
3) Montero didn't play with the Yankees until 2007

Hi Jesus,

First I just like to say that I love your collection and all the great items you have of Latino players. Second, I do not know the full story of the bat and hope to learn more. I could be completely wrong.

Based on what I know, I do not think Alex Rodriguez used the bat. The tap job is out of character for Alex Rodriguez. However, Jesus Montero using tape on his bat makes me curious tho.

Since the bat is not created in the time period (2008 and 2009 has the current label and 2007 and 2006 had another label unlike 2005 center label, based on Getty photos of Carlos Beltron) that Jesus Montero played professional baseball, I wonder if it is possible that Alex Rodriguez had given Montero this as a unused bat and that Montero decided to use the bat in 2007. As a big fan of Jesus Montero's potential for the the Yankee future (I like him better than Cerevilli), I find this bat very interesting, especially if it was used by him.

Respectfully,

Joel
