One team I also really fell in love with was the 2004 Astros. How they snuck into the playoffs with some help from Steve Finley. Kent's walk off HR in game 5. I thought we were going to the WS after that game...oh well.

My most favorite baseball team is actually a minor league team from my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. The 1967 Birmingham A's was the AA team of the Kansas City A's and had future Hall-of-Famers Reggie Jackson and Rollie Fingers plus other fine players such as Joe Rudi, Dave Duncan, and Tony LaRussa (serious prospect before getting injured that year, and a sure-bet for the Hall).

Other future/former big leaguers on the team included pitchers such as Marcel Lachemann, Joe Grzenda, Vern Handrahan, Gil Blanco, and George Lauzerique. Charles Finley's first "designated runner", Alan Lewis, was also on the '67 team but not pictured in the below photo.

The team was managed by John McNamara (as can be seen, lots of future coaches/managers on this team) and won both the Southern League pennant and the Dixie League Series over the Texas League Champion, the Albuquerque Dukes (Dodgers AA team).

For a 12-year old boy, it didn't get much better than this!

Second row: Reggie Jackson, Art Miranda, Bob Frati, George Lauzerique, John McNamara (Manager)
Weldon Bowlin, Bob Taylor, Mickey Dobbins and Vern Handrahan.
Third row: Santiago Rosario, Bob Guzek, Dave Duncan, Stan Wojcik, Joe Rudi, Joe Grzenda, Gil Blanco,
Rollie Fingers, Mike Olivo, Wayne Norton, Marcel Lachemann and Dan Garrett (Trainer)

1961 Yankees. My father took me to see them play at the old ballpark in Kansas City. They won 3-0, no home runs but Maris hit a towering fly that was caught against the right field fence. Berra pinch hit a singe late in the game, Mantle got two singles. Whirl and I are tipping our ages.

1978 Padres (Perry Cy Young, etc.)
