Around 10:00AM on June 11th of this month, Barbaro Canizares was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett and was expected to play in Atlanta by the 1:10PM game (just 3 hours later). But I just wondered.....how did they get his jersey made up so quick? Do you think they used his Gwinnett Braves nameplate and quickly sewed it onto an extra Braves jersey? Also I'm not sure if anyone here was at that game, but Canizares was wearing a helmet with no logo on it for his first major league at-bat. Then during the rest of the game he wore another helmet with a logo on it.

If he was on the 40 man roster they probably had jerseys already made up for him....If not, they probably had an idea ( couple days before, etc) that he would be called up at some point and had the jersey made up for him. MLB teams also have blanks ready and they do the sewing in house if needed.

not all teams have sewing in house the orioles go to a shop called proam in towson it is about a half hour away when ever they need a jersey made they call her up have her make the jersey and some one goes and picks it up she also repairs the visiting teams pants when they are torn and makes new jereseys for visiting players one time the lady who makes the jerseys brings the jerseys during the games we had a player on the o's who did not have a jersey until the fourth inning one game he was just wearing a blank jersey until his arrived

could you answer these question as they kind of tie in to this thread.

orioles03,

would the equipment management hold onto a player stuff if they dont make the team during spring training and then be reissued the same stuff (hat, jersey, helmet, etc.) once the player makes the team on a callup later that year.

yes it is usually kept in a back room they have a trunk of players jerseys. hat no not really they usually get issued new ones .also when a player is getting called up the the equipment manager usually know before everyone else that they are coming up.the helmets are usually kept in an extra bag with helmets and when they get called up they usually find there helmet give it to them or issue them a new one

At least he didn't have to do what Darren O'Day had to do when he went to the Rangers in his Rangers debut.
