Before he was drafted, this jersey was available with the other Team USA jerseys and I had a $1,000 bid at the time. They ended the auction early due to the college/mlb rules. Now this jersey will hit like $5K or more I bet! Quite a risk for a pitcher!

I hope your number is correct Bert. That would be more reasonable...

But this dude has generated hype that has not been seen in a while.
I know a card collector that is getting ready to drain his bank account to buy a bunch of cardboard SS stuff - certainly there is a collector out there (or casino :) ) who has the grip just lying around in a money clip waiting to be blown.

I am just making a ceiling guess. Like I said, I hope it goes for much lower...MUCH lower.

I wish the picture of the autograph was better. Still would make a nice addition.

Great timing by MLB to maximize profits!!!

Actually great timing by USA Baseball, they handle their own auctions. MLB is just their web host.

Andy, what's your max on that jersey?

Probably how ever much Andrew Lang has in his pocket at the time - if he decides to bid of course. :D

I like the idea of his jersey with provenance. I have a number in my mind for one more bid but I won't run after it as I am sure it will sell for $3,000 or more.

Seems reasonable considering all the hype around this kid. Personally I would have a problem spending this much on a guy who hasn't even tossed a professional pitch. Anyone remember Mark Prior?

Wonder why this one worn by SS against Canada has the name plate on the back, while other white ones currently on auction worn against China have no name plates on them? Also, all of them look to be 1 game wonders.

The China game was early in the summer schedule and was a part of the National Team Trials. Not all members that were on the squad at that point made the final national team at competed overseas. I do have photos from later in the summer that show NOB. My best guess is that they hold off on adding names until the final roster is set.

It is also important to note that the other jerseys listed are from the collegiate level national team. The Strasburg is listed as an Olympic exhibition versus Canada and that was a completely different national team. The Olympic team consisted entirely of professionals with the exception of SS.

Agreed. I'm glad for whoever won it and wish SS well. I can't afford to collect that way -- paying that much for someone that hasn't played an inning yet of MLB. Yet as I collected Cordova, I was always thrilled to find early high school items ... but certainly not at those prices.

As a collector, not a speculator, I could find a pretty sweet bat from a lifelong hero of mine in the HOF for $3500.

There's yet another Strasburg USA jersey up for auction on MLB.com

And if he's a bust that's the biggest way to waist $3,645.00. Such a risk to bid on a jersey of a guy he has yet to throw a pitch in professional baseball.

I noticed that the 2nd TEAM USA JERSEY of Stephen Strasburg sold for $870.00... any idea why the other one Sold for so much? both USA jerseys were Game Worn and both were signed by Stephen.

The first one Sold for $3650.00USD.

The second one is a BP jersey.

But I believe they wore those "BP" looking jerseys in their games as well. Like players weari ng BP style jerseys in ST games.

Most teams and the WBC and International teams wear their BP jerseys in ST. Only a few teams wear actually uniforms in ST (Mets and Cardinals) are the two that I can only think of.

Yeah. Someone got a game used Strasverg jersey on the cheap (if you can call an $800 jersey cheap!) compares to the first jersey sold. We'll see if it was worth it!

lg_ham

$800.00 is a lot of money but it's significantly less then the other USA Jersey signed by Strasburg and it's MLB Authenticated and so rare to own a piece of Stephen's Game Used Memorabilia.

I wish I would've have bid on this one. I saw it too late.

This person probably could get more for it I'm guessing if they re-sold it.

The Autograph is much clearer and better placed then the first jersey that sold for $3,645.00 USD.

What I find interesting is that Team USA played Canada four times in pre-Olympic exhibitions and Strasburg pitched in only one of those contests. (August 4) They wore the gray tops in that game so the two previous jerseys were worn by him but not in game action.

(https://secure.nbcolympics.com/baseball/news/newsid=166228.html#u+s+routs+canada+seven (https://secure.nbcolympics.com/baseball/news/newsid=166228.html#u+s+routs+canada+seven); see picture #3 & 5 in the photo gallery.)

This goes back to old discussion whether you consider it game worn by a pitcher if he doesn’t throw in that game. However it still doesn’t explain the price discrepancy between the two auctions.

The Olympic team did wear the blue alternates in Beijing, they were not exclusively for BP.

What days were the Canada vs USA exhibition games? and I noticed that there is a patch on the White Team USA Strasburg Jersey that sold for $3,645.00 USD.

What day was the Blue Jersey worn on? does anyone have photos of Stephen from this game?

What day was the Grey USA Jersey worn on?

The thing I like about the Blue Jersey is that all of his USA Baseball cards of him are with him in the blue USA Jersey.

I still think a signed Team USA Stephen Strasburg jersey for $870.00 with MLB Authentication is a great price for #1 Pick.

Does anyone know how many of these Team USA Jersey's were issued to the players?

The olympic team played exhhibition matches versus Canada on August 1-4. They wore gray on August 4 and white on August 3. I have not been able to find pictures from the games on August 1 & 2. The white patch is the USA Baseball 30th anniversary patch that the collegiate national team wore last summer.
