Got up early this morning to make the trek to the local antique show held at the state fairgrounds....had to park about half a mile away because every parking lot was full..I was thinking to myself there can't be that many people at the State Fair Park race track today to bet on the Derby..and why would they be there so early?..got to the antique show and realized that it's the graduation exercises for the Univ. of Nebraska...that was such a long time ago for me now I didn't even think about it...anyway I pay to get in and walk down the first aisle with no luck and then I spot the fella who had pinbacks last year that I hadn't seen set up in awhile so after looking around his stuff for a few minutes I spotted a nifty Little Pinkies pinback from 1896 with a little boy holding a ring bat so I grabbed that for $15...the same fella had a generic scorekeeper that he wanted $50...I passed on that....walked down the next couple of aisles with absolutely no luck at all, everyone I asked if they had any baseball items said they didn't bring any, but they know they have some at home...I've asked these people everytime I go to the show (5 times per year) and they always say the same thing...one would think they would remember to bring the baseball stuff, but none of them ever do. Finally I run into a dealer who says she does have some baseball stuff and shows me a couple of books to look through...all 1950-60's Topps cards...not interested so I pick up a few other books on her table and flip through them and find a victorian scrap of a boy throwing a baseball -$3.00 I'll take it...then ran across a Helmar stamps envelope with a bird stamp in it -not baseball, but baseball related advertising -$3.00 I'll take it...moved on to the next couple of aisles and couldn't find anything...was looking like a bad day...then happened upon a Christy Mathewson book from 1963 with the dust jacket..$8.00. Finally came to the last aisle with nothing real special picked up and happened upon a dealer from St. Joseph, MO who had a whole slew of baseball pinbacks and other small items, but way overpriced or more than I wanted to pay...he had a really neat "Go Go Sox" Pinback from Skelly gas stations that I'd never seen before, but I thought $40 was more than I wanted to pay...he told me he had an old scorekeeper I might be interested in and I couldn't pass that one up at $50...it's from the World Herald -I'm guessing the Omaha newspaper as I've never heard of another paper with that name...I also grabbed a Piedmont matchbox from him with all the matches still inside...I got that for $18...moseyed on down to the last dealer who only deals in postcards and picked up a Nebraska Indians and an Houston Astros postcard for $20...checked his Elba and St Paul categories to make sure I wasn't passing up a postcard with GC Alexander on it. Nothing doing. Overall not too bad...I really like the scorekeeper and the Piedmont box and thought I got outstanding deals on both....last antique show for a while...it's garage sale season now.

I think you did quite well. Nice job of telling the story also. I need to do that this month when I hit the local show. I love the score keeper.

Dan- Thanks for sharing your day. I really like the scorer. The scorer face is just like the face on the Ruth watch fob scorer, which I like.

Thanks guys....Joe I noticed that too while doing some research today...I'm amending my guess as to age on this to the early 1930's as I also saw one nearly exactly like this one which advertised the 1933 World's Fair.
