MILWAUKEE - A 1954 Milwaukee Braves jersey worn by then-rookie Hank Aaron will be auctioned June 24, a move some experts believe could fetch as much as $250,000.

The sale of the flannel road jersey, which has been authenticated, will be handled in New York City by auction houses Sotheby's and SCP Auctions.

The jersey might be the only one of its kind, said David Kohler, president of SCP Auctions in Laguna Hills, Calif., which specializes in sports memorabilia.

"During the first part of that season, Hank wore it using the number 5," Kohler said. "Then he switched to number 44, but you can still make out the outline of number 5. We're pretty confident it's the only jersey."

The jersey belongs to Steve Myland of Arizona, who owns an extensive collection of sports memorabilia. Myland bought the Aaron jersey in the mid-1980s for "well over six figures," Kohler said.

Aaron hit 13 of his all-time record 755 home runs in his rookie season, batting .280 in 122 games
