I did not look at all of them, but the ones I looked at are all not authentic. Some are very bad forgeries that people are actually bidding on.

I clicked on the first auction and saw that the location is in the town right next to mine.

There isn't 1 authentic autograph in the group. Most are Greg Marino & Mike Moses forgeries. Some are just flat out ridiculous, but people are still bidding on them.

I'm no Mantle expert on signatures. They look fine to me, how can one tell if its legit or not? Are there certain characteristics that I should look for. I have a ball signed by Mantle with a legit COA from a good company that I've had for 15+ years. Just wanting to learn how to spot a fake.

Aaron,

I've looked at and studied thousands of Mickey Mantle signatures over the years.

After a while, this kind of experience enables one to view a Mantle signature and offer a confident opinion as to it's authenticity.

Post a photo of your ball.

Sammy,

Do you have an email I could email it too? The photo didn't turn out all that great. The ball was certified by The Score Board Inc.

Sammy,

I have an 8x10 signed by Mantle which I was given like 15 years ago. I always assumed it was real but I'd love another opinion. I lost touch with the person who gave it to me but I always trusted her before. I'll post it tonight.

Greg Marino and Mike Moses were well know forgers who were busted during Operation Bullpen. Greg Marino's Mantle forgery was said to be almost perfect, but it has it flaws if compared to an authentic exemplar. I will put together an image of fake/authentic side by side comparisons soon. I will also try to put together a list of questionable/bad COA's to be on the look our for. There were literally 10's of thousands of forgeries that came from the hand of Greg Marino and Mike Moses, and alot of the "companies" that distributed these were located in California. Then add all the items that were sent all through out the country, and countless of bad COA's made for those as well, means it is near impossible to list all the questionable COA's. Here are some off the top of my head I can remember.

STAN "THE MAN" SPORTS MEMORABILIA - NJ
SCAA - Fake company formed by Wayne Bray to certify forgeries.
J. Dimaggio Authentication - Formed to authenticate forgeries
Laura's Cartoons & Collectibles
Madison Sports Management - Did ALOT of Ali forgeries
Truly Unique Collectibles
Hollywood Dreams
Chris Morales
Donald Frangipani

I would be very very cautious when purchasing and item with a COA from a location in California. Post a picture of the item here, and we will try our best to help you. Im sure Sammy can add to the list, and I know he has ALOT of autograph knowledge.

I am currently doing a study on Derek Jeter autographs, and will post that once it is complete. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

I don't remember Chris Morales having anything to do with authenicating the Marino's stuff. I thought he came to prominence from only one source: Coach's Corner.

I listed Chris Morales as a questionable COA to be on the look out for.

Alot of the items he authenticates and has authenticated, has come from the pen of Greg Marino.

Coachs Corner month after month continues to have Ruth, Gehrig, Robinson, Wagner, etc, an endless supply of all the vintage stars and hall of famers. Marino would fill orders of 20 Gehrig balls, 60 Maris balls etc.....

He would do LARGE quantity orders for all of these players.

I believe thats why we still see auctions every month for these players on Coachs Corner. There seems to be an endless supply, or theres a new forger in town.
