Hello everyone,
I have just been contacted by a friend in Pittsburgh that sent me pics of a Woodson jersey a co-worker of his has decided to sell. The owner is not claiming that the jersey is a gamer but the jersey does have a couple of slight marks on the front and back. I can't tell from the pics but he claims that the front numbers show some sweat staining.
One of the pictures of the jersey shows the "95" tag by the wash tag. What makes this strange to me is that the Starter logo is located above the sleeve stripes, and in all 1995 pics of Woodson, the logo is in the middle of the stripe. What gives here? Not sure about tagging or nameplate width either.18700

It's a high end retail.

Bill,
I agree with you. Does anyone have good pics of 1995 Steeler jerseys for comparison? I would still like to have the jersey if the auto is legit, but definately do not want to pay too high for a replica. just got additional pics also.18703

You can see a '94 Greene and a '96 Woodson in American Memorabilia's archives (no '95, though).

One of the telltale signs that the Woodson jersey is not authentic is the presence of a generic, one-size fits-all nameplate. Steelers gamers feature nameplates that are tightly cropped around the name.

I looked through the archives at AM. It is true that the black jersey has a cropped nameplate, however, the "early 90's " white Woodson jersey they sold matches the jersey in my pics very closely. Even the wide nameplate, sleeves and location of NFL sheild all appear to be the same. Look at it and tell me what you think. http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?Auction_ID=8239

Yes, I've noticed that too in the past. That is the one jersey on there that I consider to be a higher end retail. I don't know whether that auction pre-dated Denny Esken's involvement or not, my guess is that might have.

I once tried to find a picture of a Steelers gamer with an uncropped nameplate. I literally reviewed all the pictures on gettyimages and was not able to find one single photo. On many photos you cannot make out the outline of the nameplate, but on all the ones that you can, they are tightly cropped.

The reason I did this is that I once bought a Steelers "gamer" that I began to suspect was not real, one of the main reasons being that the nameplate extended across the back. After much back and forth with the authenticator, who utlimately was not able to find a photo with an uncropped nameplate either, I was able to get the auction house to refund the money.

one other note, in 95 Woodson played less than two quarters for the steelers as he was hurt in the first game and didn't play again until the super bowl.
