Here's an Al Liter (Leiter), what I thought may have been an Ed Pearn (HEARN?) though I believe it may actually be a Joe PEARN bat (minor league catcher), and the infamous Derek Jeter Mets game bat.

This is my Bernard Gilkey bat - a rookie bat, no less...which makes it understandable why LS spelled his name BENARD. He laughed when I showed it to him not long ago.

I've got one of those "Benard Gilkey" bats, too.

I also have a few Greg Colbrunn "Greg Colburnn" Easton bats, which Greg told me were some of the best bats he ever used.

1977-79 Louisville Slugger Bill "Mad Dog" Madlock game used bat, model C253

Model number should be either C235 or C263 - numbers were transposed by brander during the branding process.

Benny Agbayani New York Mets error bats. The first bat shows Philadelphia Phillies (a team he never played for). The next two are "AGBANYANI" bats. Sorry for the blurred photo.

I'm sure Brian isn't happy with LS error bats from a QA standpoint, but these bats are unique collectables.

By the way, my favorite so far is David's Derek Jeter New York Mets bat.

Kind Regards,

Ron.

Actually this thread has made me feel much better about it. I thought my guys were the only ones to do this sort of thing. At least mine have the excuse being in thier late 50's/early 60's trying to see 1/4in. type set...

I still have one guy who tries to get creative with a silver sharpie "fixing" mistakes:mad:

I have a Dan Haren rookie bat spelled "DAN HERAN" and have owned two others that come to mind -- a Joaquin Andujar bat spelled "ANDUJOR" and a Pete Vuckovich bat spelled "VUKOVICH." But, my all-time favorite bat error is the Jim Edmonds Louisville Slugger I saw on eBay once that had his name stamped up-side-down.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w232/birdbats/Errorbats.jpg

In H&B's defense, not only does Jim have an unusual signature, but I've been told Jim created his autograph in such a way that, when it's viewed up-side-down, you can read the word "Jimmy." I've never had the opportunity to ask him about this. For all I know, Edmonds may have requested the bats be stamped in this manner. Any insights, Brian?

We stamped his bats for over a year like that and he never said a word. I forgot who finally told us we were putting it on wrong. In our defense it was the actual brand that was upside down.

Not errors by any means, so slightly off-topic, but has anyone come across a bat inscribed for an Hispanic player with the last name different than the name by which he is known in the States?

I don't know exactly how it works - perhaps Museoven could provide some insight - but I know that some players, when they're back home, add, I believe, their mother's maiden name after their family name, and that's the name they use there.

The only example of this that I've ever seen on a bat is one that Edwin Diaz used, which is inscribed "Edwin Diaz Rosario".

The Worth Bat Company misspelled Bill Ripkens' name in 1987 (this was used during Spring Training that year)

"Valdimir" Guerrero, Ralph "Houck", Sandy "Aldmar", and Ryne "Sandbreg."

Bushing told me a couple years ago that this was the earliest Adirondack bat he'd ever seen, and I've always wanted to take the Ryne bat to a show to see if he'd sign it "Sandbreg."

I own a 90' bat with the spelling "McWIRE". It is the bat on top. It is also cracked and heavily pounded.

I guess this would be mostly a question for Brian.

Is there any way to tell from the bat shipping records whether the name was misspelled on a particular shipment?

For instance, I'm looking at this Wilkin Castillo bat

http://i18.ebayimg.com/02/i/001/2e/41/68a5_1.JPG

where they've misspelled his first name. Will the shipping record likely say "Wilken" or "Wilkin"?

I'm mainly asking because I'm pretty sure this bat was made in '07 or '08 (it's marked with the uniform number he used in ST in both those years) and I was curious as to whether I could figure out which year it was made.

Um truly depends, sometimes Charlotte will put in the name incorrectly or the guys will transpose letters off the production ticket. She will go back to check records and correct them so it's not possible to see if it was misspelled in the records.

I would rather not have an error bat. Like BMH said, some of the ones that they catch end up getting used by minor leaguers. And I wonder how many of those bats enter the market as gamers from that given player.

This isn't a bat in my collection but I just ran across it on eBay. It's a Steve Pegues Seattle Mariners bat. I checked his career stats on Baseball Reference and he never played for the Mariners. Not even in their farm system.
