Psst...
Helmet looks good, however, the actual Eagles decals have a clear boarder around them, and this one does not. In addition, the valves on Owens helmet were painted green...on this one, they are not.

I have not contacted the seller, as I just stumbled upon this auction and there are 11 minutes left...

Here are pics... It is hard to tell the valve from the grainy photo of the auction, but the painted cap may be removed. However, the decals are a dead give away...

On every single game used Riddell helmet I have had the front bumper decal has much larger Riddell font than all of the replica decals I have seen. It is not a huge issue, but when compared it is compared togther it is very obvious.

Another giveaway is the lack of a chinstrap. The ones with the colored Riddell imprint are near impossible to come by, so the frauds in these cases just conveniently lose them.

If you want to keep going, look at where TO's chinstrap hookup hits the eagle decal on the top. On the real helmet, TO's chinstrap snap is drilled on the lower white portion of the "wing decal". On the ebay helmet, the chinstrap snap was drilled on the grey portion of the "wing decal".

Hello,

As a way of trying to find some evidence of real vs. fake game used helmets I just wanted to post these photos to show one small indicator. It may not be 100% true in every case but I have had game used Riddell helmets from the Jets, Eagles, Cowboys, Eagles, Rams, and the Dolphins. I also like to reproduce helmets for display as well and have bought the colored Riddell front bumper decals from three different sources and all of them had the smaller font as pictured below. All of the official NFL helmets had the larger font, also pictured. Hopefully this is of some help in the future.

Jay, I too collect repros and would love to know your source for these. Only place I've found them is RealStuff and they won't sell them by themselves as far as my experience. Pretty much same as their limited supply of colored Riddell stamped chinstraps.

Thanks.

i think this is a very good indicator, or potential flag, but needs to be taken into consideration along with other factors. it seems that the riddell bumper logo has adopted a "bolder" font as of late but as is the case with many authentic helmet decals (including flag, nfl shield, etc.), mileage will vary. below i've posted the logo from many "gamers" that have sold at auction - i've also included a few photos of game photos showing smaller logos as well.

as far as the owens lid is concerned, i think everything said here is spot on. did anyone notice that the seller also listed a mcnabb "game issue" helmet at the same time? he was careful to say that it wasn't a mcnabb gamer but was custom built to mcnabb's exact specifications - it included mcnabb's sig. it sported the same wing decals and riddell bumper logo. go figure. and, of course, if you do an ebay search for "eagles helmet" you will come across custom helmets with the same "borderless" wings and small riddell logo. btw i thought the rear "eagles" decals on the t.o. was too large and that the rear number decals were knockoffs...

the 9 photos above the white line are from "gamers" sold at auction (ebay and auction houses) - from left to right, top to bottom: griese, brady "game issue" (gridironlegends - ebay), mcnabb, owens, favre, marino, warner (rams), brady, manning (peyton). the bottom 3 game photos, left to right: testaverde, moss (patriots), everett.

The listing is no longer on ebay and the seller is listed as not a registered user. Does anyone know who the seller is (eac2231)?
