Hello, this is just a discussion for anything and everything regarding the A's fanfest in 2009. They moved it to early April this year. Who's going, what are you looking to pick up. Anyone that is unable to attend could also post requests here for those attending to get for them. I'm so excited, it's what I look forward to every year. Manny

Do you know if they sell Gu items there? Also, can you bring jerseys and bats for the players to sign? Thanks

Oh I'm gonna be there, and in response to Slam's question, yes they do have game used stuff there. They ahve jerseys, bats, some helmets, and some cleats. Last year everything was REALLY resonably priced, I picked up a Kendall for $30. Got a couple jerseys for $50 to wear. This year I'm planning to get there early (with all the dealers that take all the good stuff early,) and hopefully pick up a Frank Thomas bat if possible. If I can get one, I think it'll be cheap. Big name jerseys are expensive though, Vhavez and Street were above $500. Ricardo

Oh, an I;m not sure if you can bring in bats to get signed, you may have to call an find out unless someone else knows, Manny?

I am looking for a Travis Buck game used jersey. Home white preferably, but will take any other, green, gray or black. Will pay very well for one with the Team LOA.

If I'm not mistaken, they open up at ten, but I will probably be getting there a few hours early, like I said you probably should to at least compete with the dealers, becuase last year I got in line when they opened and as I was in line the people that got there early were leaving with literally dozens of items and the stuff was picked over when I got in. It's sold int eh team store, which is right next to the main enterance. I'm going to call when it gets closer to get more info, specifically when the parking lot opens and you can begin to get in line.

On another note, maybe we should all meet up some where before going into the where they sell the gu stuff. We could possibly team up and help each other out by grabbing some of the gu items some one else might want.

That's probably not necessary. The way they organize it is great. They allow like ten people in at a time, so it's not a huge scramble. The room is not very big at all. It's sold in the team store area, anyone that's been knows what I'm talking about. We could probably discuss in line, since we'll probably have two hours or so of standing.

At the actual fanfest I have never seen fielding gloves or catchers gear. I believe they have done helmets in the past. They do auction off catchers gear, helmets and occasionally cleats during their home games every weekend. As far as cleats for the most part the A's run a baseball academy in the dominican republic and all the cleats that are left in the clubhouse at the end of the season get shipped down there for those kids.

The fanfest will mostly have jersey's, bats and locker nameplates.

If only 10 people get in at a time, isn't there a concern that they'll buy all the good stuff? Or what if they spend all day in there and never leave? I've never been...so any thoughts on what to expect would be great

spartakid
01-13-2009, 06:06 PM
Yes, that's part of the problem, the first people tend to buy dozens of items, and last year there was no limit. The only option is basically to be one of the first ten in line! I don't think they've ever had a problem with people lingering in there, usually people know what they want and are out in ten or fifteen minutes, it may be fifteen at a time, I can't recall exactly, but I know they only allow a certain number of people in at a time. Ricardo

If you wouldn't mind telling me, how much have you spent at the fanfest in the past years? I'm trying to decide how much money I should put aside. I knowit all depends on what you spend but just an average would be great. thanks, Manny

jersey's will be between 150 and 600 depending on who your looking for. Bats 40-200 also depending on who your looking for. Helmets will run you around 100+ if they even have any and locker room plates will be like 15 bucks a piece. If you buy alot of stuff Voos (Steve Vucinich the equipment manager for the A's) will usually give you a decent discount.

What's up everybody...

Being that I am on the east coast, I will not be able to attend the Fan Fest activities...however I would love to get ANY A's Frank Thomas item...hat, wristbands, pants, jersey, nameplate...whatever. I don't have anything from his playing days with Oakland and would love to add a west coast piece to the collection.

If anybody is planning on going, or knows of anyone who has Thomas stuff for sale from his A's days, let me know. Thanks a bunch and happy collecting.

I thought I would add my thoughts on this. I have been going to Fan Fest since it was at Jack London Square. If you want GU stuff from current or past popular players yes you should get there early. But if you want GU stuff from past or current not so popular players it may benefit you to go later or stop by the team shop location on your way out. Later in the day Vuz does announce a different times things like "For the next 5 mins everything is 50% off" or "See me with what you want and I will see if I can do something for you" The set up of the team shop is that they have most of the top GU stuff behind tables on the wall and you have to ask the workers to get them off the wall for you. If you want regular GU stuff they have them on shelfs or merchandise racks. They have a rack of home, road, green and I assume this year black jerseys. All with price tags on them. They are arranged numerically. Some numbers have many different players names.

I have yet to pay more then $60 for any on my jerseys, but then I buy them to wear so I buy them for size. Among the jerseys I have bought I paid $20 for a #15 Lachemann, $50 for a #37 Van Burkleo and $50 for a #59 Stein.

Knowing that he only made it into only 9 games last year with the A's and his Cubs jerseys were on the $100 rack @ the recent convention... I was taking a chance that he would be on the "cheap rack" at A's fest.

Guess what guys. I went to the A's/Giants game today and they had started the Memorabilla sale today. The good news the prices are great. The bad news there was not that many "great" jerseys. I have a copy of the list. I will try to upload some images of it for you to see. The list is 4 81/2" x 14" pages long.

the most expensive jerseys are Chavez @ 160, Ellis and Duchschrerer @ 150. Most of the current players are in the 60-80 range. You can post here or email or AIM me at my member name at AOL.com for the prices.

Just for the record I picked up a Mark Mulder white jersey #20 for 50, a Bob Bowen black #18 for 30 and a white throwback wool autographed Mike Quade #45 jersey from 2000 for 40.

dnrapp,

Thanks for posting the info. Those were some great prices. What time did they start the sale? Had I knows, I would have gone this morning. How much wear did the Mulder jersey have?

As for the bats, the reason they didn't have many this year is because MLB collected most of them last summer for research on the Maple bat issue. Then again, I was the third person in the door last year and they didn't have that many bats either.

Well, I guess I don't have to worry about getting up early tomorrow since all the good stuff is already gone.

I am not sure when they opened the door. I got there a little before 11:00 and they were open. The Mulder looks almost new. they had more in all the colors. One of the gray ones looked worn.

If anyone is going I would be interested in a Eric Chavez, Nick Swisher Milton Bradley and a Mark Kotsay. Preferably white, black or green. As long as it has his name on the back, for these prices it doesnt really matter.

Yes, the A's started wearing the green cool base jerseys during the 2006 season. For 2008, they had all four colors available in cool base.

I was planning on attending but didn't based on the fact that most of the good stuff was already gone yesterday. The plan would have been to pick-up another Suzuki, Buck and Thomas jersey and possibly a Ryan Sweeney and Gio Gonzalez jersey. I wish they had these prices last year.

To those who picked up BLACK alt game worn jerseys, do they have the proper tagging at the bottom "Set 1 2008", etc? Or do the black alt jerseys not have this type of tagging, just wondering.

I picked up a black alt jersey and it doesn't have any special tagging that I would have expected.

yes they did sell hats, they were five bucks a piece, but many didn't have numbers in them, and I believe they did not come with COAs because they couldn't positively identify the player. Hope this helps, Ricardo
