Absolutely agree with you Tfig27.

But you can't mention The Mick and Joe D. when it comes to signatures without including The Splendid Splinter.

I remember going to shows in the late eighties thru early 90's and these guys were the Big 3 draws.

Each one of them took pride in signing their names and giving each paying customer a quality autograph.

I totally agree with you. All three took their time and made every letter visible.
Mantle used to charge $50 in the early 90's. I would say that's well worth it.

My vote goes to Harmon Killebrew......sorry I am unable to post a picture, as I tried but my images are "too big". I need to do some digging to find out what program to use to post pictures here (any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am a newbie here).

Suicide (I can't believe I'm really calling somebody that) -

Go to photobucket, create an account, upload pictures, and then it will give you a resizing option. Works like magic! Good luck.

I am a fan of Roy Smalley's autograph too. Much better than his signature on the bat.

I'm somwhat partial to Jim Zorn's signature. I like how he added the passage proverb, over time. Not for any reverent reasons, simply for the fact that you can trace the time period when it was signed. Also, quite stylistic.

Laymon Ramsey, who played in the Negro Leagues. This auto was signed when he was in his late-80's! After he retired from baseball, he was a signmaker and billboard painter.

I think that Babe Ruth's autograph is amazing, particularly when signed in fountain pen. However, I'm not a baseball fan, so I'll offer up one from football. I love Dan Marino's autograph. It's artistic yet legible and I respect the fact that he's a true professional who doesn't short change fans with a bad auto (unlike a lot of new players who simply initial items, or worse...).

Here are my votes in no particular order...

Richard Petty (this is spot on...none better in any sport)
Mark McGwire circa 1998-present - VERY easy to spot forgeries.
Jim Edmonds (pictured)
Rollie Fingers
Steve Carlton

I'll have to get it scanned and uploaded, but I'm partial to my Christy Mathewson autograph. It is a thing of beauty. A close second would be either my Ruth auto's or my Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx sweet spot signed ball. Those guys really took the time to sign and it shows!

Kenny Rogers has one of the cleanest sigs in the game today IMHO and one of the most interesting sigs is Terrence Long (almost looks like graffiti tagging) I will scan their graphs in a few minutes and post once I did them out.

Here are some of the best autographs there are, all on one huge litho...one of my favorite pieces in my collection. Take a look at these autos and then look at the stars of today...these guys took the time to sign because they appreciated the fans I believe.

All beautiful sigs with exception to Willie Mays. He missed school the day they taught how to write the letter W. He's always been hands down one of the nastiest individuals I've encountered. Just one sour grape in general.
