Auto. Preservation On Bat

Has anyone tried to use a spray on lacquer to preserve a auto on a lacuqer finish bat? I mean just spraying a light coat over the auto. Does anyone have a opinion, do you think it may damage the auto or decrese the value in any way?

If the ink will fade and discolor, how would an overcoat prevent this?

Other than possibly preventing a smear or such, I don't know what an overspray would do to protect the signature.
