Okay, I bought my first gamer yesterday at the Twins Pro Shop. It has the hologram and everything. The hologram assures that the jersey is "team issued" The sheet that they have with all of the prices has "game used" written on top of it.

I told a guy at work about my buy and he went on to the computer and brought up Liriano's stats. He pitched in 7 home games in 2008. The jersey is a home alternate with the markings 47 54 08. The guy at work then went into the video archive section and brought up highlights from the seven home games that Liriano pitched in.

Guess what? Liriano wore the home white sleeveless alternate 6 times and wore the regular home jersey once.

So, I don't doubt that he wore the jersey on the pine during a few games, however the proof is in the pudding that he did not pitch in the jersey during 2008.

I guess all that the team guarantees is that it is a team issued jersey but I can't help but to feel a little cheated that he never wore the jersey while pitching. Isn't that what would really constitute "game used"?

I am wondering if they would do an exchange or a return or even if it is something I should ask about. What would you all do if you were in my shoes?

People don't like my theory, but if the jersey was worn in a game, even if sitting in the dugout on the active rooster, the jersey is game used. People who do not like this theory forget they also like to classify manager or coaches jerseys as game used and they didn't play in any game either. If the jersey was on the players back and they were available to participate, then it is game used.

If you do not feel good owning your Liriano jersey, take it back quickly and explain why and I'm sure they will refund you as long as they do not have a policy against returns.

I understand your logic and it is sound. I don't anticipate asking for a refund, but rather an exchange. In looking at video from this past year he did not wear the home alternate or the road alternate (he must not be fond of dark blue).

I don't think that the Pro Shops have the home sleeveless from him, however they do have his road jersey and regular home jersey. From the video, it looks as though he only wore the regular home jersey on 4-18 and wore the regular road jersey on all 7 of his road starts.

I am leaning towards requesting an exchange for the road jersey since the odds are that he actually pitched a game or two in the actual jersey I would be displaying.

I bought a Juan Encarnacion opening day 2007 Cards jersey from the Cards team shop. It was rare - with gold trim to celebrate the 2006 series win...

It was listed on the LOA as game used, but a buddy reminded me that Juan was hurt and sat the bench for the series that they wore the jerseys in.

I paid $450 for it.

Luckily a fellow collector really wanted it, and I sold it for what I paid, but I was considering returning it. The pro shop should understand.

I believe sales on game used equipment is final at the Pro Shops. But I could be wrong.

Joel is correct. By MLB standards if the jersey was worn by the player in a game it is game worn, regardless of whether he saw action or not.

Always be careful when purchasing a Twins pitcher's game used jersey. Twins pitchers are the ones who choose the jersey the team wears that day and many pitchers have their favorite for one reason or another. And as you can tell by this example, Liriano doesn't choose the alternates.

The Braves Clubhouse Store in Atlanta does allow returns here as long as you have your receipt. I'm not sure how long you have, but it is something resonable like 10-14 days. I'd check with the store & explain the situation.

Thanks for the replies. I just got back from the Pro Shop and they gladly exchanged my blue home alternate for the road jersey. The road jersey shows more wear and since that is the only road jersey that the pro shops had between all 3 of their stores and he wore the regular road jersey in all of his road starts, I am surmising that this jersey is indeed one he wore while on the hill.

I did find out some bad news today as well. As of Saturday the Twins will no longer own and operate the pro shops. They sold out to an outfit called Delaware North Sportserve or something real close to that.

What kind of selection does the Twins store have in terms of game jerseys? Any idea if they have any from the 1990s?

The selection of current stuff is great, however I did not see anything prior to 2006 in the way of jerseys.

$200...would be asking $400 if the sleeve patch wasn't removed. Well-worn!!

1976 Minnesota Twins knit pullover, made by Wilson, size 44. "1976, Set 1" tag in tail. Worn by rookie Dave McKay. "Twins" sewn on front. Number "7" sewn on front and back. Twins logo patch removed from sleeve, outline remains. Heavy wear, jersey has gone through numerous washings. Stitching on Wilson tag at top, is missing. Bottom stitching on tag is intact.
$200 with shipping and delivery confirmation included.
I accept PayPal, money order or personal check.
