Scheondienst Bat Frustration

Won by Dave Bushing. Now, I am NOT against Bushing, I'm a fan of his, so I hope this thread doesn't turn into Bushing Bashing. I just wish I had his knowledge. Here is a bat model that shows up nowhere in Red's records, yet Bushing plunks down decent money for it. What I'd give to know what he knows!!

I think the rarity of a Scheondienst bat makes this bat desirable. Early 60's bat of a HOFer and autgraphed. Even if the bat didn't show up in the records 595 is a steal.

Also keep in mind that he doesnt know all of these by heart. He has books and books of records he looks at when he sees a bat on Ebay he likes. Frustrating? Shyeah, tell me about it.

I think he ordered the bat in 1964 but he retired in 1963. So a post career/coaching bat.

I have Red's records and, yes, it was ordered in 1964 when Red was a coach with the Cardinals. I'm sure Dave knows this. I've seen some high asking prices on Red's bats lately, but in the auctions I've followed through the years, this bat's price isn't much lower than realized prices for '50s gamers (excluding ASG and WS bats). I once had a beautiful '58-'59 AD signed gamer that fetched only $525 when I consigned it to Mastro. It's been a few years, but I don't think the market on Red has evolved that much.

I know three guys looking for a Schoendienst bat, and none of them bid on this one once I told them it was a post-career bat.

Hi Ken--- Actually, for a post-career bat, this is fairly representative of Schoendienst... K55 models show up in Red's records in 1951 (34.5"), 1952 (35"),1956 (34.5") 1958 (33"), and then, as Jeff notes, post-career in 1964 (35.5") and 1966 (35.5".) Personally, all things considered, for a player whose bat prices are and have been pretty static, my preference is for a model that was specifically made for him at his direction/request. In Schoendienst's case that would include models S144, S150, S171, S182, S195, S197, S210, S211, and S282.
