I am looking for different ideas on how to display bats. There was one person on this site that had a great display but I can't seem to find the thread.
I've got too many bats to really display all at once, so I built this out of grid panels, like they use in store displays. It keeps all the bats handy, and holds 512 in a 24 square foot space.

oh my goodness.......no wonder there's no good bats left out there. YOU have them all!

Godwulf - were you at the final dbacks game? Did Dunn actually get rid of some of his bats??

here is some semi-recent pics of my collection, I don't have the space to display it right now, so my collection resides in a closet. There are a few new acquisitions not pictured.
Thank you,

Yes, I was, and he didn't hand them out to the crowd, if that's what you mean.
I'd guess that he gave some to his teammates and the clubhouse guys and the bat boys...which, at least in the latter two cases, means that there's a good chance that at least some of them will be for sale in the very near future.
I found a Store Equipment store in my area...they sell both new and used store displays and materials, every kind of rack and shelf unit and case you can think of.
The panels are new and come in 4' x 4' and 2' x 4' sizes, in white (which I chose) or black or (I think) red. I built a box, basically, out of two 4' x 4' panels for the front and back, and 2' x 4' panels for the sides, top and bottom. Then later I added room for another 256 bats by joining more panels to one side of the box I'd already made, giving them a common center wall.
You just slide the bats in knob-first, and the knob end rests in the corresponding grid on the back wall, like a giant wine rack. As I recall, counting the cost of the panels and all the little fasterners you use to connect them securely, it only cost about $125 to make one box.
If you mean the one down at the base of that little "tower" of gloves, Mark Reynolds.

That one photo actually represents the most/only organized part of the collection - everything else is so jumbled up and disorganized that I'd be embarrassed to show anyone pictures of it. I guess I need to work on that.
Are all those bats from one team or just kind of bats from everywhere?
I wrote two separate long-winded replies yesterday, and my computer ate both of them...so I'll boil it down this time.
I started out in '98 collecting just Diamondbacks bats, but soon began buying bats (and jerseys, etc) from DBacks players' former teams. I've slowed up on doing that so much, but still collect certain players (Luis Gonzalez, Greg Colbrunn, Steve Finley, Danny Bautista) regardless of their team affiliation at the time. (I have 15, 33, 10, and 20 of those guys' bats, respectively).
Nearly all of the bats (and jerseys) that I buy now are from the Diamondbacks, their minor league affiliates, and things like Team U.S.A. and WBC jerseys of DBacks players. (I just bought Max Scherzer's 2005 Team U.S.A. jersey, for example.)
I also try to find at least one bat, regardless of team, for each DBacks manager, coach, front office guy or broadcaster, and get it signed.

I will pull the bats out of the corners this weekend get some pics posted....
Just click on link below or copy and paste below and you can view the full size images, image shack allows bigger pics to be posted, still a lot of the bats are hidden in he corners...
The first pic was the closet in my "bat room". Took the closet out and purchased some 2x4's from Lowes. Next I found some dowels I thought would be thick enough to support a bat. Then I measured how much distance I would need between dowels on the 2x4 in order to fit the neck of the bat by the knob. Lastly I drilled the holes in the 2x4 at a slight downward angle, mounted it to the wall, inserted the precut dowels and hung the bats. This appoach is nice because you can cut the 2x4 into any length you need and it is cheap!! Pic 2 is more of the same although I purchased these from Home Depot about 10 years ago and was only able to find them online recently. The price I found them at was higher than I wanted to pay so I made my own.
The last photo is a custom bat tube holder a friend of mine made about 10 years ago followed by gun rack style holders my grandfather made for me. Both of these are way beyond my level of expertise but I thought I would throw them in to give you ideas.
I have managed to get 350 bats up on the walls in a roughly 13x10 ft room with one wall soley being shelving.
Hope this helps!
