Are the records for Ron Santo bats available from Louisville Slugger and if so can you provide a summary? I know his contract was with Adirondack but most of the bats I've seen in auctions are L/S S2 model. Thaks in advance.

Hi--

Here is a summary of Ron Santo's H & B orders between 1958 and 1966. Jim may be able to provide 1967 through 1974.

There is a reason you generally see Model S2 bats in auctions of Ron Santo bats. Between the 1958 and Aug 1966 he made 78 separate orders of bats from H & B. Of those, 73 orders were for Model S2 bats (totaling 416 bats) and only 5 orders were for other models.

His S2 orders ranged between 34 and 35 inches, with about 80% being 34 1/2 inches in length. The weight ranged between 31 and 32 ounces, with about 90% being 31 ounces in weight.

The other non-S2 orders during this time frame were 1958: R43 - 34 inches / 32 ounces (3 bats); R43 - 35 " / 32 oz (3); 1961: M66 35' / 32 oz (6),; and 1963: U1 - 34" / 31 oz (12 ).

Good luck

Mike

Hi Wayne and Mike - From 1967 until Santo retired in 1974, his personal factory record shows 65 orders which 59 of those orders were for S2 model bats. There were two orders in 1972 for S279 model bats which was a new model that had a S2 knob and a G105 barrel. In 1973, there were two orders for S286 model bats which were patterned off of an Adirondack model which has been crossed out in the records. Finally, the other two non S2 models ordered during this period were M110 models ordered in 1974. Just about every order during this period was for 34.5" bats. Most weights ordered were 31 to 32 ounces.

Let me know if I can be of any further help - Jim
