Does anyone have the resources to post a Goodman & Sons tagging primer? They made jerseys for a few MLB teams in the 70's and 80's, and it would be great to see the tagging variations throughout the years. Thanks.

Kind Regards,

Ron.

I have this pic to add. From an A's. 1980's jersey...must be a minor league jersey.

Ron,

Here tags on 2 86 Met road jerseys.

Note the variations.

the size 43 with the water temp is an older tag (i think)

Thanks for the posts, everyone. Although I don't have the jersey anymore, I once had a Jerry Reuss Dodgers Goodman jersey that had an extra tag that read, "Long" sewn to the wash tag. I wish that I had pictures of the tag to show here.

David, here is a less-than-perfect picture of my '86 Mets pre-game jersey with a Goodman tag.

Hope that there are other members who can share their Goodman tag photos.

Kind Regards,

Ron.

Never seen this type of Goodman and Son tag before. Any ideas on what era it may be from? Thanx.

That's a late 70s-early 80s variation also used on USC jerseys.

The tag is on a Raiders jersey and it appears in the collar. The tag is pretty washed out but I'll give it another try tomorrow.

Just found an interesting tagging variation on a 1970 Goodman Dodgers jersey. There is a traditional rectangular tag in the collar but on the bottom of the jersey, there is a small square tag.

Here's the tagging found on a 1971 Dodgers jersey. Both jerseys appeared on eBay

Jim

That's good information. It is safe to assume that 1970 was a transition year between both styles of Goodman tags, square and rectangle.

No. I'm not sure. I was speaking of the square mfg. tag as opposed to the standard rectangle Goodman tag. I will do more research, but the variation seems to exist in the flannel/knit change-over.

I just got this 80s Tucson Toros jersey. Made by Goodman, but interior laundry tag says "Berlin, WI". Did Sand-Knit manufacture jerseys that were supplied by Goodman? Did Goodman actually make the jerseys tagged by their company?
Is this jersey a "rainbow" exception?

Goodman, of course was a Los Angeles based company.

I have seen them. Mostly on jackets, but some jerseys, also.

Your post of the boy's size tag, got me thinking. How can you tell if the tag is retail or for professional. In your two photos, the type of tag is spelled out on the tag but just thinking of the rest of the examples you use for your primer. Look forward to seeing it.

Goodman had a retail store in Downtown L.A. in the 70s and 80s. Maybe someone has more details. They sold many pro quality jerseys. They were exactly like gamers.
I still need to find exact dates for certain tags. Jim's year tag on the Dodgers flannel definitely helps.
Any tag example with years will help.
