My thoughts are that "CHICAGO" is all wrong. I have never seen it so condensed before. I took a look at a handful of photos and the "O" in Chicago extends beyond the "21" in every case. This jersey has the "O" finishing way before the "21" does.

Look at how the number "21" lines up with the letters "AGO" on the shirt Sosa is wearing.... Big diff!

The "21" appears more spreadout in the getty pictures.

Yep, that's very distinguishable.

I have never seen a Cubs strip tags like that before. The strip tags numbers are usually sewn on. But Rob would now for sure.

Another thing compare the Number 21 on the back the one for sale is much smaller from jerseys from 1998. Unless the seller washed the jersey and the numbers where the only thing to shrink:p

Not sure what photo you are referring to where the "CHICAGO" is "crunched" up. The attachment you are showing is much like every photo I have seen whereby the CHICAGO is spread out to at least the edge of the number "1" (often is beyond that).

Russell never used "sewn" (embroidered) numbers on the strip tag in the collar. They incorporated screened black uniform #/set/year information on a paper type tag.

Both Wilson and Majestic incorporated embroidered numbers on the knit material strip tagging. Wilson also included a small year tag in the tail.
